I just finished a 14 hour shift in the mines and my black lung was getting worse. Becoming weaker and weaker with each breath i see the sign flickering in the distance, it reads "Dutchess Diner". I realise i dont have much time and decide to have my last meal. As i reach the bottom of the steps the door swings open and there she was, an angel. The light radiating from her dress was blinding. Her skin looked like it was as soft as marshmallows. As I walked past her she kissed me on the cheek and said "sit where you'd like". From that point on I levitated inside the greatest food establishment ever created. Sitting at the bar i notice they have a Bob Ross marathon on. It made me feel like a little kid on a Saturday morning, its a monday night. I open the menu and my mouth waters instantly. Burgers, club sandwiches, chicken wings, wraps, gravy fries, waffles, pancakes, egg sandwiches, and chicken souvlaki. My heart is beating so fast I might pass out. After fading in and out of consciousness I locked eyes with a plate being carried out of the kitchen. Buffalo Chicken Wrap extra crispy, fries, cole slaw, pickel, and a side of blue cheese. I had to have it, after placing my order I had a drink of the purest clearest coldest water iv ever tasted in my life. With each sip I felt my black lung healing like the grinch's heart in that Christmas movie. The kitchen bell rang and out came my chicken wrap. The second the chicken aroma hit my nose I broke down into tears, thankfully all the tables have napkins. After my nose got use to the heavenly smell of fryed buffalo chicken, I spread some blue cheese on my wrap and sunk my teeth into an answered prayer. The chicken was so crunchy each bite felt like an earthquake, just when i thought i couldnt take anymore the giant chunks of blue cheese calmed down these tremors from heaven. I sit back while admiring my now empty plate. The waitress brings me my check and there is was "10.75". I truly...
Read moreUpon entering the diner, I was greeted warmly by the staff, which made a positive first impression. However, I found it unusual that I was never offered a menu; instead, the staff pointed me to where it was located. This felt a bit impersonal, especially for a first-time visitor.
After reviewing the menu, I decided to keep my order simple and opted for a pastrami omelet without cheese. I was offered water, which was a nice touch.
The food was served in a moderately timely manner. When it arrived, I noticed that the presentation was just okay; it didn’t particularly stand out but was acceptable for a casual breakfast.
Throughout my visit, I noticed a gentleman by the door next to the cashier who seemed to be the owner. His constant presence felt a bit unusual and somewhat awkward at times.
When it came time to pay, I used my card. After signing the receipt, I noticed that the staff paid close attention to the amount I left as a tip, which felt a little intrusive. It’s worth mentioning that if you choose to dine here, be aware that they seem to be quite attentive to tips.
Overall, my experience was a mix of positives and quirks. While the welcoming staff and timely service were appreciated, the absence of a menu and the stressed ambiance left me with...
Read moreStopped in with a 4 top. No masks, no service, right? But as in most restraurants/diners, when you are served you may eat with the mask off. This Diner is out of our local area but we stopped by for "old times" sake. Hardly anyone there, don't understand why. It's a great Diner in Stratford, CT. We had great service (thank you Michele) & my spouse had a Monte Cristo. Real French Toast & the combination of ham & turkey was awesome. The coffee was hot & we were asked if we would like a fresh pot made. A northeast custom that I truly enjoy. I'm not THAT fussy about my coffee but being asked is the thrill for me. Seemed like a nice assortment of desserts in the counter case for viewing upon entry & I love this place, partly for the food, mostly for the memories. In any case, if you are in the area, it's worth your while to stop for a bite. Walked through the whole place as restrooms are on one side & we sat at the other side. Gave me a chance to report that the Diner was immaculately clean as was the ladies room. Try the Duchess Diner, it will make you...
