Hi! I'm a Truck Driver, and I eat all across the US (and Canada). I've stayed at a nearby hotel several times, but tonight was the first time the clerk recommended Five Star. So glad he did. Looking over the menu, I see they have a nice variety to choose from. The 8oz. Sirloin steak was calling my name.
Med-rare, add sauteed mushrooms and onions. Baked potato (with extra butter) and a side salad (with Caesar dressing).
After I placed the order online, what seemed like only a couple of minutes, I get a call from the front desk. "Sir, your food is here".
That was nose-bleed fast!! Holy cow!! A nice young woman, Destiny, was sitting there, in the lobby, waiting for me. She took the bag off the counter, and placed it in my hands. I immediately felt the weight. I asked if there was silverware, and she said yes. She left right after.
SO... I take my bag 'o goodies, and walk briskly back to the room, and tore into it. Granted... this is TO-GO... standard issue Styrofoam clamshells.
The steak... nice presentation for TO-GO. They laid the steak on foil, curled all around. The sauteed onions and mushrooms, covering the entire steak, glistened with light. Speckles of seasoning throughout. Just the right amount of char. I make my cut, like an over-zealous surgeon... and I'm greeted with perfection... Med-Rare. Beautiful. Tender. Juicy. No need for any additional seasoning. Delicious.
The baked potato, is, well, a baked potato. But, I asked for extra butter, and they delivered. Nice dollop of sour cream too. I would have loved to see some chives as a garnish, but, the potato wasn't the star attraction... the steak was. Perfect pairing, though. "Steak and Potatoes".
Overall, I'm extremely impressed, from start to finish. So impressed, I had to call the restaurant, and "asked to speak with the manager"... to thank them. I didn't catch her name, but she was worried for a hot second... LOL!
Five Star BBQ & Steakhouse is well deserving of their name... "Five Star". I'm looking very forward to a return trip, to try some of their other menu items, like their Brisket, Pulled Pork, Sausage and Ribs!
So, go on... give 'em a try... tell them "Scott the Truck Driver" sent ya, and I hope you're satisfied as I was.
Good job, Five...
Read moreWife and I stopped in while we were in Stroud. IT WAS AMAZING. The smell when you walk in immediately sets the stomach to rumble, typical cafe setting, not fancy but very clean and welcoming, everyone is greeted when they walked in. Jennifer, our server made us feel like we were regulars and put us at ease. We ate on Friday so I got the all you can eat catfish and sides, but we started with an appetizer of smoked chicken nachos which were very tasty. I had the loaded mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese. It was the best fried catfish I can remember having, perfectly fried tender and juicy inside, light and crisp outside. I don't typically like hush puppies, but theirs were different from any I've had and were very good (I ate them both). My wife got the 8oz sirloin (it was really much bigger than that, 1"+ thick). She said it was the best steak she's had (and she's very finicky). It was cooked to order and she said it was very flavorful and seasoned. We both mentioned that we would have to come back on a Tuesday when it's all you can eat ribs to try those, so Jennifer brought us a rib for free to try and see if we liked their ribs (WE DO!). This is why I love trying small hometown places. In general they treat you with value and make amazing food to order. Five Star is one of those places. I highly recommend driving as far as you need to to try this place. I know we'll be back. Thank you so much for the outstanding hospitality and...
Read moreStopped in Stroud overnight, the young man who checked us into Hampton inn recommended it to us for dinner said it had great steaks and BBQ. Pulling in I questioned how a drive through place could have great steaks. I stand corrected on my thought. My husband ordered the sirloin steak (I think it was the cut, it was the 4th on the menu and had a photo of it on the menu as a highlight). I got the sliced brisket. Steak came out looking like it could be kinda stringy and chewy, but the looks were deceiving as it was WONDERFUL. I don't know if it's locally sorced Oklahoma beef or what, but Illinois beef does not taste like this. It was tender with a great char flavor, seasoning was good (didn't need a1) even the fat (I know I'm wierd to eat some of the fat) had a great melt in your mouth flavor and texture. Hubby enjoyed the baked potato and our server was kind enough to bring my husband a new salad when he tried raspberry vinaigrette and found he doesn't like it. My brisket was super tender, I thought it was going to be dry but I put it in my baked potato with some of the hot BBQ sauce they have and it was great. Both dishes were large enough that we shared to satisfy all cravings. We also got the blackberry cobbler with ice cream for dessert which was also wonderful and sharable. If you are in the area we highly recommend the stop. We did also buy their hot BBQ sauce to take home. Thanks for...
