My Parents and I had dinner here at 6:30pm on a Tuesday. The restaurant was packed and slightly understaffed. About 2 minutes after walking in, our waiter/server seated us in the corner table near the kitchen. The ambience was very pretty, filled with Siamese and Victorian era Replicas, but with limited room between tables, which could be difficult for obese people. Within 5 minutes, our waiter took our drink and appetizer order. We ordered the Chicken Satay, Shrimp Dumplings, Fried Calamari, Thai Iced Tea and Choya Umeshu Plum Wine. Almost immediately our wine and water were served, within 3 minutes are Chicken and Dumplings were served and within 6 minutes our Calamari was served. Upon serving the Chicken and Dumplings they asked us for our entree order. With all the options, we weren’t yet ready and placed our order upon receiving the Calamari. The Chicken Satay was tender and perfectly seasoned, but the peanut sauce was a bit overpowering. The Shrimp Dumplings were firm and delicate in flavor and served with a sweetened soy sauce. The Fried Calamari was crisp, not too oily and served with a sweet golden sauce with red pepper flakes. The Thai Iced Tea was rich and delicious but a bit too sweet. I thought the Choya Umeshu was overpriced until I saw the portion. At least 8oz in a deep long stemmed wine glass. For Dinner we ordered the Red Curry Duck (Kaeng Phet), the Jungle Curry Beef (Kaeng Pa) and the Stir Fried Scallops, Ginger and Vegetables. Within 15-20 minutes of us ordering our entrees we were served. All of us loved our meals. My parents have an aversion to overly spicy food, but were asked to pick their desired heat level before ordering. Krua Thai did a great job matching their description. My Father’s Red Curry Duck was tender and mostly trimmed. He was surprised and had to share a piece with both of us. My Mother’s Stir Fried Scallops were Tender Sea Scallops sliced into thirds to make thinner circles. She ate everything but her rice and raved about it. I was told my Jungle Curry Beef only came in one heat, “very spicy”, but being adventurous I ordered it any way. While the beef cuts were standard fair, the sauce and vegetables really shined. The Bamboo Shoots were firm yet tender, the Kaffir lime leaves whole and slightly bitter (I’d avoid eating them) and the broth was too spicy and flavorful to sip, but great over rice. Flavors of lemongrass, lime leaf, ginger, garlic and red chili pepper permeated the broth. The entire experience was close to perfect. (9 out...
Read moreWe visited Krua Thai this evening for dinner while on a trip through Stuart, Florida, and could not possibly have had a better experience.
We were greeted warmly by the staff, and welcomed in from the rain.
We chose the Seafood Lover special with a small side salad with peanut dressing, plus a Nam Sod Salad with chicken. We had a short but humorous discussion with our server about spice levels (she suggested Zero on a scale of 1 to 10, which turned out perfectly).
Moments later, our side salad came out, and we devoured it. The peanut dressing was fabulous ("we make it here" our server proudly said).
A few minutes later, we noticed a couple arriving just as the rain started pouring down. One of the staff went out with a golf umbrella and escorted them in. The staffer got wet, but the couple stayed dry! Extremely considerate. The couple greeted the staff warmly and with familiarity. I asked them if they were regulars, and they said yes, and that we were lucky to find the restaurant.
We really enjoyed the Nam Sod Salad, which had crisp lettuce and crunchy chicken and peanut chips. Vinegar-based dressing finished it off very nicely.
The Seafood Lover platter came out with mussels, calamari, scallops, fish, shrimp, and fresh vegetables including snow peas, broccoli, slivered carrots, and red onion. The seafood was firm and absolutely fresh. The veggies were cooked but still crisp. Wonderful.
When we were done, we got a bill for $44.94. I was happy to tip just a bit over 20% to bring our total to $54.
Rain had picked up when we were leaving, and the staffer helped my wife out to our car while I made a dash for it. Again, very considerate.
It's a shame that we live near Los Angeles, and Krua Thai is in Stuart. Otherwise, we'd be...
Read moreTried Krua Thai for the first time with wife . Excellent Thai food! Here is our notes from our first time:
Ginger salad = did not receive because our order was To-Go. Why can't we have this complimentary salad if we order to-go? We have to dine in to have the complimentary salad? The ginger salad is one of our favorite things at Thai restaurants.
Salad costs very little for restaurant (salad + dressing) , this is the first time we have seen this happen (the other Thai place gives the complimentary salad to-go)
The price is the same for to-go entree, yes? so why no ginger salad? We felt a bit shorted.
Spring rolls = For the price/size, 2 rolls seemed a bit low. 4 rolls, for this price, would be ideal. Delicious, but ended quickly.
Papaya salad = excellent flavor. But, 2 people usually share this salad, only 2 shrimp? needs to be 6 ideally, 4 absolute minimum, (we only got 1 shrimp each), if you look at price you'll see what we mean . Even so, it was delicious.
Entrees = wife got chaing-ma soup , I got masammun curry, both amazing! Highly recommend!
Everyone agrees that little details really separate an "ok" restaurant from an "amazing" restaurant, and people notice this. That's why they will come back over and over again.
We will be trying the restaurant again this week.
Don't skip Krua Thai! It was great!
