Maria's Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Sturgis Township

I had always liked Maria's Mexican Restaurant until our last visit. I arrived with my wife, my daughter and her service dog. The host greeted us and asked how many. I told him 3. He immediately turned around without saying anything and walked into the kitchen. He returned a minute later with another worker, possibly the manager, the new gentleman pointed at my daughter's service dog (who was wearing her "Service Dog" vest with all the required informational placards present) and said the dog is not welcome here. I was then told that they would make an exception today but in the future my daughters service dog was not welcome in this establishment. Per ADA act, a service dog is welcome anywhere including government and federal buildings. As soon as we sat down the waiter (manager?) took our drink order and asked if we were ready to order our food. We had just sat down. When the drinks were brought to the table 2 minutes later we were asked again if we were ready to order. We were served promptly, so promptly as though it felt like we were being hustled out and we felt like we were clearly not welcome to enjoy our food or our time. If you're reading this review you care enough to get a valid opinion about whether to waste your time and money. Save yourself the hassle and find somewhere else to have lunch or dinner. I only visited this place once while traveling, but my negative experience was enough to warrant taking the time to complete this review.

I ordered a taco salad and opted for a vegetarian (bean) option instead of the protein options and added onions. When the taco salad arrived, it was filled with refried beans. The taco salad appeared to be more of a bean soup and NOT a taco salad. When I asked the waitress about the beans, she replied we only have refried beans. This information would have been good to know when placing my order, however I did not return the item. The taco salad was NOT good but still, I did not complain. Big mistake, when my bill arrived I was charged extra for those same refried beans requested in place of the chicken or beef option. I paid in full and left an appropriate 20% tip, knowing I will never eat there again! I honestly hope the $18.26 was worth losing business and a one...

We eat here all the time , at least 4x a month or more. As others have said, service is not always fast. Often we have to ask for our refill or napkins. They do not always check on you well once you are served. But we did not stress over that, so kept coming back. This last weekend, we ate here (sister and I) and we had AWFUL service, the worst we have ever had. The waitress was sooo rude. We were at a loss for words at how she spoke to us. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the worst of how you can treat someone, I would give her a minus 3. She was just plain rude. No reason to be that way either, we were NOT rude. My food was not what I expected, (tried something here I have never tried here before and had asked her to explain it to me, but she failed to fully explain an ingredient that I can NOT eat or have -so when it came out with that on it, I asked to have it remade).
