Catrina’s Mexican Cuisine — Restaurant in Suffolk

I highly recommend trying Catrina's! Hubby and I had our first visit there tonight and we'll definitely be back! The restaurant is much bigger than it appears from the outside and is beautifully decorated.

We came on a Sunday evening and it was not busy at all (thankfully, because we were starving), but our waiter said Friday and Saturday were really busy nights for them! We were seated right away and as soon as we sat down, they brought us chips and salsa and the white sauce. Hubby and I don't eat the white sauce but we were with a friend and she enjoyed it. Salsa was just the right level of spice and quite tasty!

Two of us got the quesobirria street tacos and they were so delicious! The tomatillo salsa that accompanied the tacos had quite a kick to it, and the dipping sauce was really good too! Hubby got the carbe azada street tacos and the ACPs trio (we have no clue what the ACP stood for and our waiter didn't either but it was essentially rice with your choice of protein and a cheesy sauce) and he tabbed about both meals. The portions were large and everything was delicious!

Got the birria with rice and beans of course, The beans were good I liked that they had actual chunks of beans in them but the rice was kind of bland it just kind of tasted like steamed rice. This theme seems to translate over to the rest of the meal too. The birria kind of disappointed me, The meat was tender and the tortilla was crisp the sauce was okay but overall it kind of just tasted like roast beef stew. I've had birria in a couple different restaurants and normally it's very flavorful and very full of spice but in this case it seemed pretty devoid. It seemed to try to make up for it with the salsa or hot sauce or whatever it was supposed to be that came with it, but that too didn't really taste that great it was kind of just spicy. I probably wouldn't get it again and I don't really like the price point per what I got but it wasn't bad and it was still of course edible. Have tried it three tries. Wish I could offer five stars across the board. Want to, but the Service there won’t allow it. We visit a lot of Mexican restaurants, almost a hobby for us. Kinda have set course of standards and dishes that we compare. Loved the atmosphere great job. The food, all three visits was spot on regardless of the dish. Needless to say we were excited to find the place. But now for the Staff. Not sure what or where they are hiring the waiters but it will kill their restaurant. All three times they take your order, someone else drops it off and you never see them again. You have to intercept them headed to another table if you want something. There’s a few waiters checking on tables, but the majority ghost you once you get your order. We’ve been to a lot of Mexican restaurants never witnessed whats going on a Catrina’s ?
