Chose a better place. Reached at 9.20 pm - placed order before closing time and food was served cold. Tip is optional. Here they charged 25 percent for two and call it late night dining Mandatory tip. We finished our meal before closing time -10 pm. Cheats ! The waiter tells me if you want you can add additional tip! R u kidding me . My tip cost was more than the actual food bill! Do not go here, else you will be ripped! Update as of 6 pm July 15 after owners response:
He provided his email address to resolve my abnormal tip issue following my first review , and hasn’t taken care of it thus far by providing me a refund for the tip. Asked for my detials of the visit - day and time and I provided but no action taken in refunding the tip. There is no definition for late night dining or meaning ? On his menu! They r cheating people with their service , which is beyond pathetic especially during hurricane time when ppl couldn’t cook and out of desperation came out to eat. They were several restaurants offering free food as a gesture of service to community like Alings, Fadis and Thai town ripped customers of their wallet in dire circumstances! Usually a 18-22 % tip is applicable for a party of 5 and above , and not applicable for a party of two. Alings, Fadis and Saravana charge a tip of 18-22 % for a party of 5 and above, I know for a fact. Below this number-5: is at customers discretion. We ordered drinks which came after we completed the meal. That much for service! I will be reporting to higher authority. Another family had same issue in their tipping conditions and talked to us outside when they left - that the owner and manager were after their tip and told them they would not serve the food if they didn’t agree for their tip conditions whwn the order was placed ! ( it was not us, although the owner admits he did so with the other in his reply:) Have you ever been to any restaurant in Houston where service is denies based of accepting tip conditions. Well now you know where it is Thai town - in sugarland by the heb. Stay away! . There and many better places offering better quality Thai food and allow discretionary tip ! Update at of 6.55 pm on July 15,2024 after my call to the restaurant for my refund per their email / gmail request to me : I was initially informed to call the restaurant to obtain my refund, which I did per his email. I have all communication and recorded conversations to escalate the matter. However when I called I get different story now , the representative says late night dining is at / after 8.30 pm - mind you 11/2 hour before closing time (which is not mentioned on the menu) and therefore will not refund and let me know who in the world on Friday night eats before 8.30 pm! we were in the restaurant before the stated closing time and that is not considered late night dining by any means. They r out to get your money for Frivolous reasons. Look at all the bad / lowest reviews and you can decide for yourself about this restaurants’ ethics! Cheats . Please do your self a favor and go elsewhere for fine dining and better service experience! Also larger parties require a stated tip but not for under 5. Cheats cheats all the way ! Follwing my updates above- July 15 at 9.30 pm after receiving several emails from owner of Thai town to remove my review. The owner clearly states on his menu suggested gratuity of 15-20 percent is always discretionary. After stating all my facts as above, the jerk will not refund my tip amount as I am totally dissatisfied with his service. Instead of politely acknowledging it like most ethically driven restaurant's would do to retain customers or bring in customers . He is threatening me in emails to remove my review. Please do yourself a favor and don’t go here to dine in or for any other time . I have...
Read moreI would definitely not recommend going to Thai Town. I had one of the worst dining experiences ever. When me and my friend walked in we asked for seats near the window and our server said no. She gave some excuse that I don’t remember. I thought when you go to a restaurant you can seat wherever you want especially if there are plenty of open seats and they are not reserved. The table she offered to us wasn’t even clean before hand. The server got my order wrong the first time when she was taking our order. We ordered our appetizers and main course at the same time. We got our appetizers pretty quickly. Then after a while we started wondering where our main course was. We started looking around like where is our food because it shouldn’t take too long to prepare 2 pad thais. It felt like 30 minutes had passed since we put in our order and we still hadn’t gotten it yet. I tried to get the server’s attention several times but I guess she didn’t see me. When we finally got her attention we asked where our food was and she said she would go check. When she got back to us she said it would be out soon. Finally after getting our food over 30 to 40 minutes later, I think it was closer to 40 I asked her why our order took so long. She told my friend it was because they only had one chef in the kitchen working so service would be slower but everyone was getting their food quicker than us. The couple that came in after us got their food before us. The mother/ daughter who came after us got their food before us. I was the one that asked the question about why did our order take so long and instead of replying to me she replied to my friend instead. When we finally got the food I was not impressed. It smelled funny and made me feel nauseous. I tried eating it but I could not take more than a few bites. I think I had lost my appetite by the time they finally brought us our food. I ended up throwing the food away. As I was paying for our food with my credit card I did not want to add my tip electronically I wanted to pay by cash so my friend was going to give a a nice tip by cash even though they did not deserve the amount we were going to give. So this restaurant automatically charges you an 18% gratuity. I was forced to pay the gratuity because if I didn’t they would have automatically taken it from my card. Mind you it was just the 2 of us. We asked why is it done this way and they said it was their policy. They said this policy is posted on the front entrance of the restaurant and on the exit door. Me and my friend felt so disgusted by this illegal practice. How can you force people to tip a certain amount? It’s not like we weren’t going to tip, we just wanted to do it in cash. The tip difference between what we were giving in cash and the 18% gratuity was like 38 cent. It would have been nice to let us know this policy ahead of time because to be honest the only time I check what’s written on a restaurant door is when I want to know the hours of operation and I’m certainly not checking to see what is written on an exit door. Just poor management and customer service on their part. Hopefully the manager won’t respond to me in a combative manner like she usually does to such reviews like this and actually offer...
Read moreAfter hearing rave reviews from friends, I finally visited Thai Town in Sugar Land last weekend, and I'm already planning my return. This unassuming restaurant delivers an authentic Thai dining experience that surpasses expectations in every way. Upon entering, I was immediately struck by the restaurant's clean, comfortable atmosphere. The space balances modern Texas convenience with subtle Thai design elements - not overly decorated, but thoughtfully arranged to create a pleasant dining environment. Even during the dinner rush, the noise level remained reasonable, allowing for easy conversation. Our server Hak truly elevated our experience from good to exceptional. Within moments of being seated, he greeted us with a warm smile and a level of attentiveness that's increasingly rare in today's dining scene. Throughout our meal, Hak demonstrated an impressive knowledge of Thai cuisine, patiently explaining unfamiliar dishes and making spot-on recommendations based on our preferences. When I mentioned not really enjoying spicy food, he provided a perfect assessment of each dish's heat and offered customization options. For entrees, we tried the classic pad thai and the restaurant's signature drunken noodles. The pad thai avoided the common pitfall of excessive sweetness, instead showcasing the complex interplay of tamarind, fish sauce, and fresh lime. The drunken noodles, recommended by Hak, were a revelation - wide rice noodles stir-fried to that perfect "wok hei" char, with tender protein and vibrant vegetables in a basil-infused sauce that delivered a slow-building heat. What particularly impressed me was the evident freshness of ingredients. The vegetables maintained their vibrant colors and crisp textures, herbs tasted as if just picked, and seafood was cooked to perfection - no small feat in Thai cuisine where timing is everything. Throughout our meal, Hak maintained his exceptional service standard - water glasses were refilled without asking, empty dishes cleared promptly, and each course timed perfectly. When I expressed interest in traditional Thai desserts, Hak suggested their homemade coconut ice cream paired with mango sticky rice. This recommendation proved to be the perfect sweet conclusion to our meal, with the warm, glutinous rice contrasting beautifully with the cool, creamy ice cream. Price-wise, Thai Town offers remarkable value. Our generous portions of expertly prepared food came at a cost comparable to chain restaurants with far less impressive offerings. The lunch specials, as Hak informed us, provide an even more budget-friendly opportunity to sample their menu. Sugar Land has no shortage of dining options, but Thai Town, with its combination of authentic cuisine and standout service from staff like Hak, has quickly become my top recommendation for both Thai food enthusiasts and those new to the cuisine. Whether you're planning a casual family dinner, business lunch, or intimate date night, this local treasure delivers a consistently excellent experience worth...
