I just want to start off by saying I am not someone who ever writes reviews, its not my thing and I also have worked in the service industry for a long time so I understand the demand of the job. But the experience here warrants one.
The experience at Toast was disappointing from the start. My friend and I came here to have a nice brunch, but unfortunately it did not go that way. When we walked in we saw the sign that said "Please Wait To Be Seated" so we did. This was where we had the first issue. We stood there for a few minutes before someone yelled across restaurant that someone would be with us in a moment, okay not a problem. (The restaurant wasn't very packed mind you) While we continued to wait there for 10 more minutes there were at least 6 workers just standing behind the counter looking at us and as soon as I would make eye contact with one they would quickly look away as if they wanted to avoid greeting/seating us. When someone finally came up to us we asked if we could sit outside since it was a nice day. We were told to just pick a table and someone would "follow us out". As we were looking for a table, we noticed they were all dirty with food crumbs and sticky stuff, so they clearly hadn't been wiped down after being bussed.
Our mistake was staying. I had to ask for the table to be wiped down and our server did not come out to the table for about 15-20 minutes after we sat down. It took 20 more minutes for us to put in our order from the time he came out all because we asked for a FEW more minutes.
I ordered the Pina Colada Mimosa, Strawberry Banana French Toast and a side of Skillet Potatoes. I ask for the cream sauce that comes on the French toast to be on the side just to have the option to dip between that and syrup. My friend ordered a drink as well along with the Strawberry Cheesecake Pancakes and some potatoes.
While we were waiting the drinks came out. I took one sip out of the mimosa and I didn't like it. It did not have any Pina Colada flavor to me whatsoever and tasted like straight up champagne.
We finally got the food 40 MINUTES after ordering and during that entire time waiting our server never came out ONCE to check on us. The table next to us was a family of 4 that was seated after us and they received their food before we did and were almost finished when we got ours.
I already noticed mine was wrong since it had the vanilla sauce all over it, but whatever. My friend's order came out right. But upon further look after I cut into my French Toast, it was still raw. The bread had barely been cooked and I could still see the raw egg mixture on it even with it being covered in the sauce. I also noticed I had zero bananas. I know all these things may seem trivial but they all just added up and I had enough at this point.
I did not eat the French Toast, all I ate were the potatoes since I was so hungry. I waited 20 MINUTES for the server to come back to tell him and he never did so I asked for a manager. When the manager came out I explained how long we waited, not liking the drink, issues with my order and how waters were never refilled once. To confirm who our server was he said "Oh the guy with the dreads" which was strange instead of saying the servers name. The manager said the French toast looked wrong (said it looked dry but it was the opposite) and asked if he could fix it, I politely declined since it took so long for the food to come out in the first place and did not want to wait another 40 minutes. But the kicker was that he said since I took a sip from the drink and because they use a jigger to measure the mimosas I would still have to pay for it.
The time it took the manager to bring our checks (to which we handed him our cards immediately) swipe our cards and bring them back to us was ANOTHER 15 MINUTES.
I paid $15 for the Mimosa and potatoes (I ate them so of course). I left still hungry and didn't even have a buzz. Just overall not a good experience with two hours of my day wasted, I will not...

They are putting in new procedures in place and have offered to remedy with us during a 2nd visit. We have also offered our apologies the way the situation escalated.
We just had the absolute worst brunch experience we have ever had.
Found this place as we were coming to the Sugarland First Colony Mall for some shopping. The menu looked fine with typical Brunch dishes so we decided to go with it.
Food took about 20 minutes to arrive but not a big deal.
We ordered the big a$$ burrito and the buffalo chicken burrito with a side of a single waffle for something on the sweeter side.
Burritos were okay but for some strange reason wrapped in parchment paper like the food you find at gas stations. It was tolerable but not good at all.
The waffle however was inedible because it was nothing but sugar on top of sugar. So we asked a staff member to find our server. We asked if it was possible to remake without the sugar. He told us that the waffles are not homemade so he can’t make it without the sugar. So we asked him to send it back and we didn’t like it.
We decided to give up eating the rest of the food also and asked for the check. We paid and tipped the server 20%. Just to my luck I looked at the printed receipt and turns out the waffle we didn’t want was still on the bill.
Since our server was at another table we walked up to the bar to get help with the bill. The employee that offered to help went to our server and came back and told us that since they are a “mom and pops restaurant we have to pay for the waffle”. I told her we sent it back because we didn’t like it and we needed that removed from the bill.
WE ONLY TOOK 2 BITES AND WE BOTH AGREED IT WAS WAY TOO SUGARY.
I got upset right away because I’ve never been asked to pay for any food I didn’t like and sent back. The server that helped us said to us “don’t be upset with me I’m just a messenger”.
We asked for a manager or the owner and her answer was “we don’t have a manager and the owners are not here”. So basically there is NO management or quality control here.
Our server came from his table and reconfirmed that he is not going to remove the charge for the waffle from the bill. Then another employee who was at the bar interjected himself into the conversation and told me to “change my tone”, and he was getting more aggressive by the minute. HE HAD NO REASON TO GET INVOLVED AS HE WAS NOT HELPING BUT MAKING THINGS WORSE.
So this restaurant has no management or owners to resolve customer concerns and the staff is ready to fight customers over a waffle.
Finally the first two employees decided to readjust our bill. I reminded our server that we even gave him a 20% tip but never expected the servers to behave this way about food the customers didn’t like.
NEVER GOING BACK HERE. PLEASE STAY AWAY. WORST DINING...
Read moreMy Lovely Wife and I were down in the Houston area to see my grandson graduate From his EMT course through his job with the Junior Volunteer FD and to visit our daughter and 2 other grown grandkids. We found this joint on Google search as a nearby breakfast spot. We really enjoyed it very much! The first time I had the Taquitos. My dish was very good. I know my wife had the French Toast and an omelette. She had asked to add bacon and she had to send it back for a correction and I believe the owner re-did the it for her. It was good and the French Toast was very good! There were a couple of other minor server issues but they got it all fixed up once we let them know what wasn't right. We had already decided to come back and eat something else off the menu before we returned home on Monday afternoon but we saw the table next to us get a plate of their Shrimp and Grits and looked and smelled soooooo good that we vowed, that God willing if we were still around we'd return and order the Shrimp and Grits, which He granted. Sold, we came back the next morning with our fireman grandson and our granddaughter and yes... We got the Shrimp and Grits and it was just way to good! The gravy that came with the 5 semi-jumbo size shrimps was just awesome and it went very well with the grits. I mean we both super enjoyed it. So, again we had a few minor slights with the service but again crisis was averted and we eventually got those corrected but it was still well worth the trip. It appears I think that a Vietnamese couple have put together a very nice and quaint little bistro and are trying very hard to make it work. I believe that it is! They need to work some on the servers and help them keep up a bit better with their tables and what their guests are ordering and such the like, but as far as the decor, the hosting, the food for sure (clearly some great items on the menu), the efforts of the owners, the general attitude of everyone it is really working. The service issues we had occurred both at their very busy Sunday after church rush period, and yet still on a much slower Monday mid-morning service so yes the ownership can work towards improving that aspect of the business but in spite of that I highly endorse and recommend this place to enjoy some great food, friendly service and attractive decor! God willing we go back to Houston we will definitely be dropping by "The Toast" for...
