Yesterday was my family's first experience with Athena Grill and I have to say..What an impression it made!! First a small back story then my review. I am 95% Armenian 5% Greek which, according to my Greek side makes me 💯 Greek! I LOVE the foods of my people and am picky to a fault! Now to review.. Walking in already had me hooked! The smell was like walking into my Greek Nona's home (Godmother) I already scoped the menu so I knew my sites were set on one thing! The bright white and blue and being on the waterfront was a lovely setting and my 12 year old usually wild child was enthralled by the beauty of the water and boats! He even remembered his manners to the lovely staff and used a napkin like a human! Now for the best part.. The food!!! I had just talked to my husband about Pastitcio for a WEEK and here after a long day of house hunting we stumbled on this gem! Pastitcio for me and a beautiful bowl of avgolemono (chicken soup!) My heathen husband and son had bacon cheeseburgers and fries, although AMAZING, who does that? You don't travel to Greece for a stadium hot dog! Lol! Now my beautiful pastitcio arrived, portioned with some seriously delicious green peas! My first bite into the pastitcio I seriously almost cried! My Godparents almost 30 years gone, and 💯 Greek couldn't have done better! It was like my Nona's hands made that food with her love and care! I really felt the love in this food and can't wait to go back! I also want to thank Shelly who I had the pleasure of meeting for her warmth and time! 10/10 100/100 Check them out.. Just don't be a heathen like my guys and your first visit get Bacon cheeseburgers! (Second visit maybe, and incidentally, fries...
Read moreShockingly awful. We arrived around 2 PM on a Sunday, seven people. The place was not particularly crowded.
After 45 minutes waiting for our food I went up to the kitchen and our waitress assured me that we were next.
I asked her why she did not alert us ahead of time that it was going to be quite a wait before we got our food. All she did was say she was sorry
I was hoping that when the food did come, it would be worth the wait, but absolutely not.
I ordered chicken in pita with Taziki sauce. I don't know if the chicken was bad, but I struggled with swallowing just one bite, it tasted so bad, I did not want to eat any more of it.
A woman who said she was the owner came over and I told her how bad that chicken was, and I asked her if it was real chicken.
She assured me that it was real, so what they did to it to make it taste so bad, I don't know. She did take it back and took it off the bill.
Thoroughly disgusted I did not want to order anything else.
Another person in our group ordered the chicken on skewers and he was extremely disappointed. There was an accompanying vegetables on a skewer and he did not touch that at all, the vegetables looked unappetizing.
Three people had the hamburger, and they all complain that the burger was quite dry and inferior.
But even worse, two of them complained of not feeling well about an hour and a half later.
Another person in our group had to take the food to go because she had an appointment and could not wait any longer. So I don't know what her's was like.
The view by the water was very nice, but this place is...

The calamari far exceeded my expectations (which is quite an accomplishment, by the way, since I have eaten calamari at many restaurants in Bodega Bay, Santa Cruz, and other coastal towns). Everything else, down to the pita bread, salad, and dark chocolate gelato, matched the quality of the most renowned eateries. The building is rather unassuming, but do not be deceived; it is like a fascinating book contained within a plain cover.
Sarah, our waitress, may have been the best server I have ever had. She checked on us regularly, but not too often; she spoke to us with respect and seemed pleased to accommodate our requests; she even offered to stay an extra hour so that we could continue eating and talking. The quality of service in such a small restaurant was remarkable. After that experience, I have to say that Sarah deserves a raise!
I'm not in Suisun all that often, but I might return just for this restaurant alone. If you have not been here, check it out! If you have been here, check...
