Going out on a limb a bit. We were traveling and needed to eat something. My navigator/wife's great at finding good spots for any situation. She said Lucky Louie's. I asked what they do, and she said hot dogs!
Had a little trouble finding it, and ended up entering the liquor store next door. Walked through it and out the front to Louise's. Have to admit i was confused when we got in. It had this HUGE cooler on the left, with a couple on barstools in front of us, plus a longish narrow high top, and a continuation of the bar on the right. Guy behind the bar in front. Signs, lights... stuff.
On the side were descriptions all their offerings. Something for everyone. A hot dog lover's dream. We had the Reuben Dog and the Dixie Normous, with a side of seasoned fries.
Tasted the fries first. They were perfect. Good crispy on the outside, soft inside, just the right amount of seasoning... perfect. The dogs were brilliant. I'd have liked a bit thicker one (I like the ones Costco sells), but it was sliced and butterflied, so that's likely my misconception. Hers was over the top, and she had a beer. I was driving, and while a beer would have been ok, it was after 4 and we had another couple hours to go.
Would be happy to visit again to try a...
Read moreAnother great visit to Lucky Louie's... the staff is amazing with a BIG SHOUT OUT to Abigail who seems to be in the hot seat at the grill on the majority of my visits! Abby is always friendly and super sweet! All of the staff is professional and friendly! The food is delicious, can't praise it enough. Definitely recommend the Poutine âââââ! Every hot dog is unique and YUMMY!
Lucky Louie's Weiners are the BEST! The selection of hot dogs are vast and unique, everything from a Don't Hassle the Hoff to a Neener Weiner, a favorite of mine...a Smith's Hot Dog with chili, onion, cheese sauce, mustard and crushed potato chips-PERFECT COMBINATION! Crazy amount of craft and domestic beers available, including many local breweries Southern Tier, Erie Brewing and Lavery to name a few...both bottled and draft beers. Lucky Louie's offers a casual environment with indoor and outdoor heated seating. Prices are reasonable and food quality is high and YUMMY! The cashier, Ryan was super friendly and quick to help me. The owner, Katie was quick with a hello. Katie was cooking and chatty with friendly banter. Lucky Louie's is conveniently located off of I-90 and DEFINITELY worth a visit if you want an AWESOME beer and...
Read moreI originally left 5 stars for Lucky Louie's ~3 years ago (without a review) and it was truly one of my favorite stops when traveling in the area. The food is great and the dog/sausage selection is amazing. I love the "Yinzer" and look forward to it the 2-3 times per year I get to stop in.
Fast forward to 2021 and I find myself considering a downgrade to 4. The beer selection is easily halved and a good chunk of what is left is now seltzers and ciders (thanks to current market trends). it almost seems like there was a passion that existed in years past, but is now faded or lost altogether. I understand the craft beer market is very saturated and not the cheapest, but to chop the options in half is brutal for beer lovers.
The seating is now outside on wood chips in a tent. This doesn't bother me much as it's obviously a COVID measure taken to mitigate issues with their VERY small interior seating area, but it's worth noting if you were considering visiting during less-than-ideal weather.
Overall? Definitely still a must-stop for a bite to eat but I wouldn't go out of my way if I was...
