Wow! What a great experience! We were visiting Sumpter on personal business and since we were in town, dinner was in order! My wife found a great review for J O Grady's (see the review) but the highlight of the evening was the Brewery.
I always say, if you want to avoid becoming an alcoholic, develop an exquisite taste for good beer and wine. The beer here was by far one of the best local brews we've had, and we love local breweries!
Yoosh! The alcohol content and the large glasses and I was tanked and feeling great. (I could still walk). The people, both the staff and the customers were some of the finest people! (Two was my limit, and of course a few sips of the wife's beer, just for taste.) All in all it was a great night. We slipped over to J.O.Grady for dinner, and back to SOB to sober up with their plentiful non-alcoholic choices!
Played some darts, pool, and really enjoyed the shuffleboard table on the 2nd floor. The place is 3 stories, well laid out and able to handle a crowd. The second floor is dedicated to gaming, with a large bar next to the brewery on the first floor, and a small bar on the third floor.
We had a great time, and a lot of fun and SOB is our new go to place in Sumter. Wife wants to visit the swan lake not too far from SOB and a popular travel destination in Sumter. We'll use that as an excuse to visit the brewery. We both highly recommend stopping at Sumter Original Brewery if you're looking for a great brew, or a night out with some friends. No pinball or electronic games, but the old fasioned industrial setting fit well with the simple traditional games available at NO cost! We loved playing Shuffleboard, which could use a new set of pucks, but was still fun and a challenge! (Thursday night is a great time to visit, not crowded, and no waiting on most games. Shuffleboard stayed busy, and now we know why!) Only 1 picture, apologies, I was having so much fun I completely forgot to document it. I guess that's why I'm not the greatest reviewer! (But I'm...
Read moreThis place has been here a couple of years and my first time going was last month. I’ve heard such good things but our experience was borderline horrible. We came to the second floor bar, there were two bartenders and one couple at the bar, we were ignored for 10 mins before my friend had to go ask the bartender if we could get some service. They don’t have cocktails, only shots or beer. Once he noticed he had a customer, his attitude was friendly. he forgot about us while we were eating. We couldn’t get any napkins, no refills on water. We asked to split the check. If you follow me you know I’ve served tables for years. This is not a hard thing to do. I’m assuming he didn’t know how. He told us he got our checks as close to even as possible (usually this is within 10¢) I jokingly told him to give me the cheaper one (but I was serious because my friend doesn’t tip and I was going to have to tip for both of us) my ticket ended up being $5 more than hers. At that point I couldn’t afford tip for both of us. I wish I would’ve seen Siri downstairs I believe I would’ve had a better experience with her. On top of that there were so many kids, one even picked a fight with my friend on...
Read moreI have never been to this establishment, as I live in Idaho, but my son lives in Sumter and is a big fan. Which is why I wanted to send him a gift certificate for this establishment for his upcoming birthday, but they are not interested in any new business, I guess. I sent them two messages on their website, even getting verification that they were received. Having waited over 2 weeks with no response, I called 3 different times and times of day. No one ever answered the phone or responded to the THREE messages I left inquiring about a gift certificate. I ended up getting the $100 gift card from Buffalo Wild Wings. EXTREMELY BAD customer service and I will be encouraging my son to find another lunch spot for him and his buddies.
UPDATE: Today, I received a nice email from Gray, the owner of this brewery, apologizing for this mishap. He said this is NOT how he runs his business, appreciated me bringing this issue to his attention and offered a concession. I appreciated this gesture and will make sure my son knows of...
