Subject: Urgent Complaint Regarding Racist and Unprofessional Conduct
Dear Piggly Wiggly Corporate Leadership,
I am writing to formally address a series of disturbing interactions I have experienced at your Sumter location at 114 E Calhoun Street, specifically involving Mark Rodgers, head of the meat department. These interactions have been repeatedly unpleasant, racially charged, and wholly unacceptable in a professional setting.
On multiple occasions, Mr. Rodgers has referred to me as “Boy” in a confrontational and demeaning manner, despite my repeated correction. For example, while purchasing a bacon, egg, and cheese on toast with a sweet tea from your deli, I forgot utensils. Upon returning with my cup half full to request a refill, Mr. Rodgers questioned whether I had paid for the cup and created a scene, again calling me “Boy.” On another occasion, he accused me of using electricity without permission, again using the “Boy” slur in front of staff and customers.
As a Black man, coming from a family of preachers, educators, military personnel, and law enforcement, and being only a semester away from completing my hospice nursing degree, I find this behavior offensive, humiliating, and discriminatory. Such conduct has no place in a reputable business and raises serious concerns about the workplace culture and supervision at this location.
I previously reported these incidents to the store manager, who indicated that the matter was “over their head” and out of their hands. This response is unacceptable and demonstrates a failure to protect customers from discriminatory treatment.
I am requesting immediate intervention from corporate leadership to address this matter. I expect a thorough investigation and corrective action to ensure that no customer is subjected to such racist and unprofessional behavior in the future. This letter serves as a formal record of my complaint, and I am prepared to escalate this matter to external regulatory or legal authorities if necessary.
I trust that Piggly Wiggly Central, Inc. will take this matter seriously and take swift action to uphold the dignity, safety, and respect of all customers. I look forward to your prompt...

They serve really good products, but somebody takes it upon themselves to put black pepper in the food and I am on a fire. It inter accidentally with my medication. And I can't believe that it comes from the manufacturer like that. This is their pre-cooked food. Kind of A smart ass board of food that you can take out. Salt and pepper packets are provided with the culture reserved. There's no reason for the workers too It's just dumb, let people season.Their own food people have too many Have too many food allergies.Let people season their own freaking food for god sake! Needless to say, I won't be. Going back?Oh, I'm getting anything cause.I keep giving them the benefit of the doubt and try to pick things that I don't see pepper in but once I start eating its...
Read moreLet me start by saying, I do not like going into this particular PIG.. (only bc I've always only gone to the one out 15 South, but recently bought a house and this is the closest.)
However, I have had nothing but positive experiences here. When I came into the store, I was greeted by the workers and then another worker said out loud.. ALRIGHT PURPLE! That made me smile..
None the less, I went in to pick up a couple of items and was on and out in a jiff. Everything was easy to find, the store was clean, the staff was super friendly, and the aisles weren't cluttered.
A win in my book!
UPDATE: 6/27/22 I'm kind of disappointed that everytime I go in there, the bathrooms are always locked. No way they're always locked bc theybjust got cleaned. I drink a lot of water and so I have to potty all day.. I feel bad for people with...
