I have eaten at pretty much all Inchin's Bamboo Garden locations across the country and have visited the one in Raleigh, NC the most, to the extent of even hosting a few NYE parties there after dinner hours. It was one of the favorites amongst us friends.
Having said that, I was super excited when I heard that they are opening up a branch in Sunnyvale, CA as I have now moved to the bay area. It opens on 2/13/204, just 1 day prior to valentine's day and I call them on Valentine's day at about 5 p.m. to see if they can accommodate 2. I wasn't expecting them to do so but to my surprise they were able to reserve a table for us during peak dinner hours (for us indian folks dinner time is between 7:30 to 9 p.m.). The good part of this whole thing ends here. It was a disaster that night and the service was horrible, to the extent of one of the waiters telling us that the way the management was catering to everyone that night was unacceptable and he was going to take it up with them. On our way out we saw the manager/owner literally telling that waiter to mind his own business and just serve food. Since then I have been there 4 times and never seen him there so we all know what that means. The kicker was that we loved a few signature sauces that they have on the table and we asked our actual server if we could buy them and he said no and he softly spoke to us and said just slip them in your bag and make sure no one knows! My jaw dropped on the floor...that's all I will say.
Since then each time we have been there we have had issues with something or the other during each visit with the most recent one being on Saturday 6/14/2014. The wife and me get there and order the usual that we always do. Schezwan rice comes out cold so we resend that back and surprisingly the new one comes out in like 5 minutes! How is that possible when the original ordered rice took more than 20 minutes to come out? I literally asked the waiter if it was the same rice that was reheated and he said "obviously not". Next thing I see if a dead half insect on my fish. Now here is the part that annoys the crap out of me - the manager comes and he apologizes as much as he can and he offers me to make a new dish and I said no that is OK as I had already eaten half of the dish before I took the piece that had the dead insect stuck on it. However, the manager insisted that he make me a new one and I was like OK fine if you want to but I told him that I am probably not going to eat it as I was quite turned off by the whole thought of the insect. He eventually brought me a fresh made fish dish and there was no way I was going to be able to eat it so I asked him to just pack it up I guess or take it back. He said he will pack it up for me. Then comes the check and I was amazed to see the fish order in there being charged to me. I did not say anything and paid it off but it just makes me wonder that the manager is trying really hard to be nice but he just isn't a nice person and all he cares about is being able to make sure that any dish that the customers send back should be served to them again so that he can bill them for it.
Again, I wasn't looking for a freebie but that's just common courtesy that you expect from a manager especially if there is a insect found in your food. You expect them to basically say that I will take care of you for this horrible experience and you expect them to ask you if there was anything they can do to make it up to you or better for you. Whether we as customers take it or not is a different scenario.
Highly unlikely that I will go back to this restaurant again. I would rather go to Red Hot Chilli Peppers in San Ramon/San Carlos in south...
Read moreThis is not our usual Inchin's spot and we frequent the one at San Jose at North 1st Street and are particularly fond of that location. This time we decided to try this one out at Sunnyvale and I can't say that this has been a great experience. I think I am not coming to this place anytime soon.
I reached there with my wife on a Friday evening around 7:45 pm and was told by the front desk that it would be a wait of 30-45 minutes and we agreed. This place being so close to the historic Murphy avenue and the evening being not one of the chilly wet ones, we were able to spend the time enjoyably. After 30 minutes, we went back to the restaurant and waited for 5-10 minutes before we were told that a table was available for us.
And then the extremely long wait started after being seated at the table. The place was completely packed and I guess they are under-staffed. No one came to even take our drink orders after 10 minutes. We tried to catch someone's attention but that was to no avail. After 15 minutes, a server arrived at our table to take our orders with the most reluctant demeanor that I have seen. His attitude was clearly like, "Yeah, what do you want? Just spit it out already." Both of us were clearly bothered but we kept this to ourselves and placed our order. We ordered two beers and 1 chicken chilli garlic noodles and hot garlic chicken. The food came way later as well. The noodles were exactly cooked as we are accustomed with. However, for some unknown reason, the portion size of the garlic chicken was really small. In the San Jose location, we typically receive huge portions and end up taking leftover food home, that's why ordered less food as well.
In the end, we decided to try the Fried Ice Cream and thankfully this was in line with our expectations. Overall, this hasn't been a great dining experience and going forward I will probably stick to my usual location. This place requires attention to detail for addressing customers' needs and maintain proper staffing during the business...
Read moreLong story short : One of the most disgusting and wasteful dine-in experiences. Server : Washington D. Food is alright, nothing extraordinary for the money they charge.
In all fairness, we have been regulars at Inchin's for over a year (always ordered online for Togo) and have loved their food (Garlic fried rice and Manchurian are our favorites)
Yesterday, we (unfortunately) decided to dine in. We arrived around 5:45 PM. And as it turns out, it was their happy hour, so the restaurant was almost empty.
The server arrives and almost mumbles as he looks into his tablet. We order appetizers and drinks. It took him quite a while to find those items on his tablet, so we just assume he may be new. My husband ordered veg fried rice and I asked him for a veg fried rice with "extras : Add egg" (this is what I always order on their website). And so he asks me, how many eggs do you want. I ask him, how many does the dish typically have. And his response verbatim "You are the one asking for the eggs, you have to tell me what you want". Now, I figured (later on) it wasn't in their dine in menu, but there are 10 different ways he could've told me that. I ended up not ordering it at all.
We got our appetizers and then the main course. And so we just ask him, if he could also get the drinks. At this point, he blatantly says you never ordered any drinks! (I heard him say the names of the drinks while pretending to add it into the same tablet). Again, I understand if it was missed, but accusing the customer that we were lying is outright unacceptable.
The whole thing was such a waste of time and money and just ruined our evening, so much so, that we were about to clear the check and walk out.
And there's also the passive aggressive force to tip, since they get the thing to your table and hover in your face as you type in. This is not to say I'm against tips, but the very least I expect is some courtesy and decency. Here the server will be rude to you and you end up paying your hard earned money...
