I would have given it a 3 , but the waitress Harley was fantastic . If I owned a restaurant I would steal her away . She is the kind of waitress that brings back customers . She was always checking on me and other customers . I watched her with a family that had an elderly family member and she was on top of making her happy . Her sweet tea was too sweet so she made her another with 1/3 sweet and 2/3 unsweetened , so the lady was very happy . She kept checking in on the family and myself and the place was a little busy , but she was on top of everything . When I told her I do Yelp reviews and wanted her name to put her in she gave me a hug .
Now to get to the food . I am a bbq nut . I grew up in the Carolinas , lived in Texas , and been in Vegas since 1991 . I have tried a ton of bbq places and styles . I was a little disappointed in the pulled pork sandwich . It was kind of dry and not very flavorful . I have read several good reviews of the food , but it was lacking . But of course I only tried the one meat . The Bbq Beans were spot on though . I really liked them , not the best I've had , but really good . The sweet tea for me was just right .
The inside is nicely decorated with lots of wood like a Southern Bbq place and a cool jukebox playing some good music . The table was very sticky though and I have read many reviews saying the same thing . The 4 sauces I tried them all . I liked the Sassy Carolina sauce the best with the pulled pork sandwich , the Kansas City Hot was pretty good too . I didn't care for the Carolina Honey and the Original Bbq was just okay . I would use the Original for probably the Ribs and Brisket .
They have a huge menu with lots of pies and of course banana pudding . I was too full for dessert . They have lots of appetizers and different meats , chili , stew , etc . I don't get to this area very often , but I would like to give it another chance and try the ribs and brisket next time . They also give a 10 percent Military Discount which is nice for a Veteran...
Read moreThis place was horrible and the management was terrible. I went there along with 2 associates to celebrate our Birthdays. One of my associates had been there before it fell under this owner and wanted to see if there were any changes made. As we walked around a corner that had booths on both sides ( I ) was confronted by the manager and some little boy who obviously worked in the kitchen who stood in a football stance as if he were about to take me. The manager immediately screams "Get back around there, you can't go this way". Mind you, I am walking with another person who just happened to be a white female...They completely ignored her and focused their attention on me. She even brought to there attention that there was not sign telling customers not to go that way, but it wasn't enough for management to say, "well we get druggies off the street who come in all the time and we have to be careful". Wow. Anyways, We had already ordered food which I had at that moment decided I wasn't going to eat, and after seeing that we were the only customers in the restaurant during the time, it was probably a good choice. I even made the comment that, " what was I supposed steal if I were a thief...Money we haven't given you yet"? Since my associates and I rode together, I reluctantly waited as long as I could before my disgust could catch up to me, and saw the dishes that were brought out. It all looked like cardboard and smelled like anything but barbecue. I would not recommend this hollow place to my worse enemy. Even If the racist incident wouldn't have happened, the food still would have gotten the piece of star it received. Maybe one day, someone who knows Barbecue will get this spot and hire staff that has a clue about customer service. There...
Read moreThis may be fine for people who don't know authentic BBQ, but I have to agree with other reviewers about the lack of taste, lack of smoke, and lack of quality. If you want oven baked, semi-tender brisket, go here. But this is not BBQ. Frail smoke ring and no rind on the brisket at all. Pulled pork looked like pork mash, had no flavor, no smoke, no texture. It was as though the pork was just sat in water and boiled for additional hours after it was cooked. It looked disgusting, zero body to the meat, in a plop on the plate resembling a loose bowel movement. Ribs were a just a little better, but still not anything to brag about. I'm all about well smoked ribs that still hug the bone, but these were borderline tough. You really had to go at them in order to pull the meat from the connective tissue. A proper smoking time puts a hearty pink smoke ring on the ribs and helps dissolve the connective tissue allowing for the fat to render and soften the meat to a light effort to pull-off the bone. Burnt ends were smothered in this glaze, so while the texture was appropriate, the only thing you can taste is the glaze. I didn't detect any smoke flavor. Only great thing we tried was the fried catfish with remolaude sauce. That one is fine here. Order it. The mac and cheese was so-so. Not a lot of flavor, lots of chicken in it. I'm just not impressed with anything here. It's too bad they cut corners on their smoke, they may have had a better product if they didn't. BBQ isn't difficult, it's all about being committed and this joint IS NOT committed. Go somewhere else. It will be...
