Big Apple Bagels — Restaurant in Superior

I have been a long time fan/visitor of Big Apple Bagels. If your looking for a quality bagel, you can find some of the best bagels in town here. I visited from about 12:30-2:30pm this afternoon. It wasn't very busy during this time, maybe a total 5-10 guests came through during the two hours I was there. Most all the tables we're visibly dirty, with marks/crumbs, some with napkins. Every other napkin container was empty. I overheard one of the staff in the back say "to make sure to check the expire dates on the cream cheese" and she said, she forgot to check this morning, which is great to hear some one there is paying attention to expire dates. Overhearing this, caused me some concern, i.e. are the staff regularly checking for that? Was the cream cheese I just ate ok? Why does someone even need to say that to fellow employees? Shouldnt that be a regular protocal to check expire dates? I thought about not writing a review here as it feels negative in nature to write this feedback. I dislike doing that in life. I also really really love this place. It's been a long standing local business in the area, and I do think the moment deserves some constructive feedback. This is a neat little place for a smaller restaurant chain. I'm not a big bagel fan to begin with but I will enjoy one from time to time. I don't really have anything negative to say about this location, its service workers but I will say the bagels are not as good as one would think. The first time I tried them, I got a sandwich and the bagel was so tough to bite through, the contents of the sandwich came gushing out the sides and onto my lap. Thankfully, they had cut the sandwich in half. So, lesson learned with the first half and I ended up separating the sandwich half and eating it open face style. I had better success then. The other times, I just ordered bagels. Again, the bagels were quite tough and hard to bite through. With cream cheese on, I'd find myself wiping it off my nose after every bite. I'm not saying the bagels were bad. They tasted just fine but I prefer a softer bagel. So, because of that, I haven't returned. The service has always been kind and friendly. The atmosphere is very quaint and calm. A nice place to sit and catch up on work or even relax a bit. I can't say I recommend them but I also can't...

I had written a review in the past saying how fresh and good their food is so here's an updated one. 9/2024 I use to go here all the time. I have absolutely no complains about the sandwiches i like muffins are gummy most the time even the mini ones. That's not the problem, when I went in or called I would get the same food & coffee but my total was hard ever the same - inconsistant. I am at the point to where I have to ask to check the receipt to make sure it was wrung up correctly. Only maybe 2 people actually know how to ring up the order correctly including the owner he didn't even know how, he had to turn around and ask someone else. When I go to a place of business I shouldn't have to keep checking my receipts. I can only imagine how much money has been over charged to their customers & the customers had no idea they were being over charged. Examples are being charged for ham when it comes on it anyways or being charged for the different kind of cheese. So now I choose to get to a Gas Station for my breakfast and coffee.
