Just Mike’s At JM’s Place - Seafood and Grocery — Restaurant in Surf City

Worst dining experience I have had since moving to Topsail beach! We arrived at 5:00. Ordered a Stella draft. We don’t have Stella draft can I get you a Stella bottle with a cold glass. Yes please. Sorry we don’t have Stella in a bottle. And BTW the special tonight is Rueben sandwich. Ok! 3 appetizers, monz sticks, stuffed mushrooms and calamari!.Monz sticks and calamari were fresh out of the frozen box. Heavy breading... awful! Now for dinner. Rueben with rice pilaf. We are out of rice pilaf. Ok, give me something your not out of. Fisherman’s platter with flounder. We are out of flounder. Ok grouper. Soft shelled crab sandwich. All good. Until the food came out. Tartar sauce for the rueben instead of 1000 island and no Swiss cheese. Fisherman’s platter was left in the fryer to long, burned and dried out. Side of zucchini sticks... straight out of the frozen food section at Publix! Soft shelled crab sandwich. Bun top was burnt black. Can I have another. To make sure it wasn’t burnt, let’s not toast it. Awful soft shelled crab. The explanation, we have a new chef. Such a huge disappointment, considering they are right on the water, and next door to one of the nicest Fresh seafood markets in the area! I mean the fishing boats come right past this restaurant to drop off the fresh catch to the neighboring dock! Could be an awesome restaurant under the right management. I would go back for a drink because the bar has a nice view of the water.... but I will never eat the food again.... unless there are...

Had a good overall experience, but what came afterwards was completely bull. My friend brought me here and to several other bars for my 21st birthday on October 6th 2017. Every single bar ID'd me that night, including the bartender at JM's.

The day after my 21st birthday, my friend came back to the bar and was immediately screamed at by Jimmy Grubb, the cashier in the store part of JM's, for bringing an 'underage kid' to his establishment, i.e me. Nothing was done to stop this confrontation, and there were multiple people there , and nothing to de-escalate the incident.

It took me driving all the way back to JM's to solve this by again showing the bartender my ID to show I was legal on the night I went to JM's. I will never be back at this bar, and neither will my friend. The bartender told me he remembered ID'ing me and seeing that I was freshly 21.

Not only did this guy insult my friend's values and morals, and accuse him of breaking the law, he insulted the intellegence of the bartender by assuming he let someone under 21 drink...

Spent nearly $200 on shrimp and crab legs for dinner tonight and while the shrimp were fine, the crab legs were rotten and had to be thrown away. An earlier phone call to confirm they had them indicated their supply was low due to a down freezer, I have a feeling whatever freezer these were in out back wasn't working either. $125 +tax down the drain. Absolutely do not recommend this place for seafood purchases, should be shut down.

Update - I added a star back because I called and they were willing to refund my money after going in to collect it. While I still wouldn't be a return customer, they were at least willing to...
