This is review is not on the food because unfortunately we are 0 for 2 in trying to eat here. This is our first time visiting Surf City and we were celebrating my birthday. We arrived in Surf City Friday (5/17) evening and searched online for a place to have a quick dinner after our drive. We decided on Island Delights and arrived just before 8pm after seeing online it was open. It was busy but not overly crowded with people enjoying burgers and ice cream. When we walked in the door someone from behind the ice cream counter yelled out “Are you here to eat or just for ice cream?” We replied to eat and I had no idea who I was replying to since I didn’t know who yelled at us from across the restraint. She then said “Sorry our grill is down now but you can have ice cream” We left and went down the street to find a great little Italian restaurant that was terrific. On Saturday after a few hours on the beach we wanted some ice cream so I told my husband that we should try Island Delights again since we couldn’t eat there the night before. They advertised a large assortment of ice cream treats including soft serve and yogurt. We walked in and stood in line right at he counter for a few minutes before anyone asked if they could help. I ordered soft serve and was told there is no soft serve until next week. Then I asked about yogurt and the reply was “Nope”. At that point we just left .... again. I realize that Memorial Day is next weekend and may be some businesses OFFICIAL start of season but this place was very disappointing in that they fully advertise they see open and ready for business. We may have even stayed for the generics Hersey hand dipped our second trip had we not felt so...
Read moreGreat little beach diner that offers something for everyone! Eat inside, get it to go, or have an ice cream cone outside; there’s plenty of options. The menu has all the classics that can be customized and made to order.
Unfortunately, finding the sort of cheap burger meal that diners have been known for is getting harder and harder. Their cheeseburger has increased by $.75 in just the last eight months but only increased by a $1.75 in the last four years. The tough economy has been hitting everything hard and that’s a shame.
Pictured is the single cheeseburger “Delight Style” with a side of French fries. This option is great if you like all the classic toppings plus a special house sauce. Service was quick and friendly! They did an excellent job handling the many ice cream orders while also serving...
Read moreLiterally ordered a chicken tender sandwich, $4.50, while the burger was $4.25... so I expected it to be better, WELL NO IT WAS NOT! The burger came with an option to have stuff on it, for no extra charge, while the chicken sandwich had no choices whatsoever. I did however like the scenery in the place. I would not recommend this place to anybody for the food...
Edit: Thank you for apologizing about this, and also thank you for confirming that what happened was wrong. I would like to tell you that the restaurant was very interesting because of all the antiques and 25 cent machines you had. Because you have apologized I am gonna have to give a better rating than 2☆, thank you again for considering what happened. I will probably return to this place when I get...
