This place popped up in my FB feed so I figured we would give it a try. And Mondays special is $5 burgers (the sides are extra) so we had to give it a try. I read the first Google review I came to and it confirmed it was worth going. We got there before 6 and still had to wait aprox 30 minutes to be seated. Nice sitting area on front porch. Once seated, we gave the host our drink and burger order. The host apologized for the long wait. Drinks came quickly and the burgers weren’t too far behind. We both ordered them cooked well. Mine was a little pink but I just don’t like sending food back. Wife’s was good. They come pretty basic with lettuce, tomato and onion (just the way I like them). Despite being under cooked, it was good. I can’t say it was the best ever, but for a $5 burger, it was good. The fries were just ok. Not hot and lots of the little pieces that seem like they fall to the bottom of the fryer basket. My experience wasn’t the greatest but I would probably give it another try. The place has a good vibe, TVs to watch, a large bar and outdoor eating area. Just like the review I read said, every restaurant is having staffing issues which translates to slower service so that’s just a given this day and time. I gave them a 3 star but it was a 3.5 (same for the food and service rating).

In with the new, out with the old. Less than a year ago we were seated on the patio of the Jerk Shack, now we are doing the same at Surfside Charlies. New owners and name, but still the same laid back, casual feel with the industrial look of open ceiling with bare ductwork, painted cement floor, full service bar and indoor/outdoor seating. Change of menu items but still serving their variation of comfort food of burger, dogs, handhelds, wraps, flats, shareables, salads and more. Clearly the place was lacking in staffing, as so many other eateries, but Bill was on his A game. Serving a number of tables out on the deck, Bill’s personality and professional manner never wavered. Our drinks and our Italian Hoagie were served in a timely manner. Toasted ten inch hoagie was nicely layered with salami, ham, pepperoni, capocollo, mozzarella, provolone cheese blend, shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, red onions and Italian dressing. Deli cut meats and fresh vegetables made the sandwich tasty and filling. A side of fries were kinda lacking as they were soft and needed a good dash of seasoning. Ketchup does cover up a multitude of shortcomings. Reasonable prices and comfortable setting will have you coming back. And they still have live music.

Although I have dietary restrictions I ended up having the muscles in a garlic wine sauce which was absolutely beyond fabulous. I also had the bacon house salad which was also on the appetizer list. It was spinach bacon grape tomatoes feta cheese and I don't do sauces because I'm gluten-free used the sauce from the muscles which was the garlic wine tomato and oil sauce which made the fabulous salad even better. An unexpected surprise there was a live musician playing guitar and singing he took requests and he played a song that had the name of one of the girls we were with because we were celebrating her birthday and he sang it for her and he wished her happy birthday and part of the whole restaurant also wished her happy birthday. His music was very good very good variety everybody sang along and clapped when he was done with each song and we found out who he was and now me and my friends have a new person to go see when he sings locally. Update September 2024 here once again with the girls. Having the steamed mussels again with the delicious sauce that I poured on my grilled chicken salad. And again we had the wonderful single guitar player the one man band himself fabulous music good dining excellent service.

March update: went to the Friday night all you can eat fish or shrimp special. Unfortunately they were out of fish by 6pm but the place was packed by 5:30 so im not surprised. I had the shrimp and it was excellent. The Mrs. had the mushroom burger and it was BIG and she liked it. Go now because when the tourists arrive, we'll need to get there Thursday to get a table by Friday. April update: Brought friends and they enjoyed dinner as much as we did. Excellent fish and shrimp special, tasty chicken sandwich and very good prime rib. The service was even better! My promised shrimp were included without any hassle or argument. A business that stands by their work is the sign of quality. I'm even more impressed with Surfside Charlie's. We've heard good things about Surfside Charlies since they opened, especially their Friday night prime rib special, but Thursday night was our first time as a belated Valentines Day dinner. It was busier than I expected and after we sat down on our padded bench seats (hooray), our first night server came by. She was very sweet and very busy with a long table. The alcohol and food prices were very fair. The Fish sandwich was fantastic, one of the best we've had in all of our years here. My wife put their delicious Cole slaw on it and liked it even better. The cucumber slaw was tasty, but the highlight almost was the Shrimp special. Lots of deep fried shrimp and French fries! Unfortunately the shrimp was overcooked, not so much as to make it inedible but enough to take away the flavor of the batter. At a snooty restaurant I would have sent it back but the shrimp was still enjoyable. Better yet, when Chef Joe came by he agreed with the assessment and promised me he'd make things right next time we're in with a few shrimp done right. I'm already looking...

We waited 40 min for fried fish on the "All you can eat" Friday night. We have been here three times before and enjoyed it. They served frozen triangle fish pieces, which we sent back and then thin over cooked pieces of fish full of grease. One piece they cut in half after cooking and placed each half on our plates along with other fish. We were also told we could not have the fish grilled or blackened as advertised. It was not the same as the week before. We were told to get there early to get the good fish next time. Shouldn't it all be "good" fish leaving the kitchen. All 3 times dining here, service was very slow which was blamed on the kitchen being overwhelmed. The staff is so nice, we didn't mind the wait. But, we did mind being served triangle shaped frozen fish and then over cooked thin fish. We would have rather been told honestly that they ran out of fish and to choose something else off the menu. After sending back our fish twice and 50 min later, the staff did offer to serve us something else off the menu. Instead we left and went to another restaurant. Advice to owner: Be honest with your customers and don't try to push off bad food when you run out of the "good" fish or any other dish. We would have much rather changed our order and ordered a hamburger than go through the aggravation and wait we encountered. Your staff is great and your food is usually great. We will be back, but not on...

Well, I really wanted to like this place since several of my neighbors have raved about it. Unfortunately our visit on Wednesday was 'meh.' Service was terribly slow. We arrived well before dinner hour (4:00) so there was no reason for why we couldn't get service in a timely manner. Come to find out 1 waitress was doing the work of 3. She was hostess, dining room waitress and patio waitress. Why?? As for the food, I had the meatball dish which was flavorless. Pretzel was tough and chewy. My friend said her burger was good, so there's that, although she asked for it medium and it came out well done. Nevertheless she did say it was good. We were overcharged for the drink special (vodka, grape and ginger ale can't recall the name of it) The menu on the table says it's $4. The hand menu we were given says it's $4. We were charged $5 for each of them. When I pointed it out to the waitress, she says, 'well the price changed and they haven't updated the menu's.' Well, that sounds like your problem, not mine! She adjusted the tab, but just the whole attitude was stinky after such lousy service and food. Then she doesn't even return with my change! I guess they just ASSUME that they get to keep your change as their tip?? There are much better places to eat in Myrtle. I can't recommend this...
