When you think 1920s coffee/lunch spot, this is what you want to imagine. Limited menu in terms of non-classic american breakfast, but the prices are pretty good. Never very busy, seems everyone knows everyone here. When i become a spy or something, this is where ill handle my assignment meetings. Decoration is beautiful, the classic shiplap of the ceiling is spectacular. Flooring is done super well, not my personal favorite, but looks really good. Wall decorations are a little kitchy chiq 2000s middle age woman, but thats alright, it works really well. Only had the one menu item, the cheese blt, but ive had it twice now, absolutely worth it. If i could buy them a $20 panini maker it would be a regular lunch spot. Coffee is a good staple american coffee, its not fancy or gourmet, its just coffee, and i really appreciate that mindset. Waitress is nice beyond her years, classic "worked hard for a long time for no fame, but happy to have done it if a little tired" waitress vibes. Exactly what you want for company here You can tell when a non regular walks in, because they behave like a real karen. Theyll get there 3 minutes before closing and then complain when you tell them menu has to be limited because the grills have been cleaned already, but you can still make them lunch. Then theyll leave and say on their way out "well be back for sure" and youll hear them complaining about it not being open through the doors. Just how it is down here in the rich dirty south. More...
Read moreMy wife and I have eaten at almost all (no bull!) the breakfast places In a ten mile radius from where we live in Murrells Inlet, SC. Raves is the only one who puts a small amount of thin sliced grilled onions and delicious seasonings in their potatoes. They also use real butter to cook their eggs with! The father of the family is the chef (Johnson & Wales University culinary school trained), the mother is the manager/server, and the rest of their large family and friends do most of the work. When we go there for breakfast two to three times per week, we always get great service. In fact, the chef makes me a "scram" vs an omelet, that is not on the menu, but it should be. He will take any of the omelet ingredients, and make a "scram" out of it, and my favorite is the mushroom scram. These are not canned mushrooms, as you can easily tell by their juicy, flavorful taste. I have also had their sausage scram, and their vegetable scram, and all have better quality ingredients, IMO, than their competition. We like their lunches too, but our favorite meals there are their breakfasts. Oh, and my wife had a pancake that was crispy on the edges, as it was cooked in butter. It was a light pancake that was cooked to order by making it thin. We found out later that it was made from "scratch" vs a "mix" which I would bet that many of the pancake houses in the area use for...
Read moreI enter into this restaurant on Saturday as I am new to SurfsideBeach, and waited to be seated. However, the employees all(3) looked so sad, no joy in their job. Finally greeted, and went to the bar. I saw the young man there before I was seated, there was no hostility. He walk over to me and didn’t speak; no good morning, glad in cane in, nothing. I address that to him as he didn’t speak to me. I ordered my food, and the vegetarians omelette was very fish smelling. I got 2 pancakes instead, I ate 2 toast and pack the bowl of grits. I was charge the total amount with no differences in changing of my order . It was handle poorly, no respect if making any differences in my order. In fact it was discuss and was told to the young man, “ I have to pay that price and that all to it”. Very poor service and I stated I would not come there again. I was the only person of color there, and I hope that was because of that. If so, it left me with a very bitter taste in my mouth. No tip was given, and...
