So after watching a couple of episodes of Chopped I had a hunger for a banh mi sandwich. I search around for a near by location out in Surprise. I found that Saigon Kitchen had them on their menu. I was happy to hear they had them because we have eaten here before and had really enjoyed the food. From the outside Saigon Kitchen just looks like another strip mall endcap restraunt with some out door seating but when you walk inside you are taken aback. This place looks like an expensive upscale restraunt. As we entered we were seated right away. Our waiter Brian took our drink and our appetizer order. The ice tea was fresh and tasted great (im very particular about ice tea.) Our appetizer were the spring rolls with pork, shrimp and a peanut dipping sauce which are a favorite of mine. Do yourself a favor and get these if you happen to go, you will thank me later. Now here is were my review goes south. Not because of the quality of food but because of the service. So we ordered the banh mi sandwiches and our waiter leaves to place the order in the kitchen. Five minutes later he returns, apologizes and says they have run out of bread.so now I'm very dissapointed. He hands me a menu and walks away. I quickly found the Saigon fried rice which has shrimp, chicken and pork. This fried rice is probably the best fried rice I've ever had, very tasty! Now I look up for my waiter and he is behind the bar with the rest of the staff. The place is not very busy and they are all congregating back there. I waited another 5 minutes before we could place our order. Our food comes out quick, awesome. As our server brings out the food places it on the table kind of drops the plate in front of my son and me as well and walks away. Didn't offer any chop sticks of even to refill our drinks. He goes back to being behind the bar with the other wait staff again. I had to ask two diffrent servers for chopsticks and drink refills. I guess our server was told that i complained he had nit checked on us so he brought out the drinks. Food wise Saigon Kitchen is on point and is easily a five-star place. But I had to take off two stars. One for not having bread to make the banh mi and two for the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is my 3rd time eating here and well I guess things are different each time. I've always ordered the same Combination Pho Large and each time the portions have gotten smaller as well the broth lacked flavor. Coming from owning several restaurants it seemed reused and water down I always try a place 2 or 3 times before I write a review just incase things are different. I generally dine alone when I'm on my lunch break from work it seems like if you dine alone service lacks attention I noticed couples or a table of more then 3 are waited on differently maybe cause the check will be bigger as well more tip from customers. I feel like it's a bit over priced for the quality of the food more so cause of the location it's in as well if I pay for a large and the portion is the same as a small then what's my purpose as a consumer paying more for less. I can go to the poor side of town get the same meal and it be 10bucks cheaper but the quality in the food would be more rich with flavor and portions will be bigger for less. My server was decent seemed upset when I asked if this was a large cause the portion was smaller then the first time I was there. Said we can get you more broth why would I pay more money and only get more broth. The things with restaurants like this who give you options of small or large makes no sense cause they use the same bowls for both sizes and neither of them were different in portion size. Definitely won't be back at all unless it's just for a drink cause the bar atmosphere is very nice and makes you want to order drinks but as for the food wouldn't want to waste my money in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am updating my previous review. We had lunch today with friends who had a birthday celebration so we made a reservation. They stuck us in the corner right by the noisy server station. The waitress was excellent, however the food was not. We had spring rolls & the saute chicken for appetizers. The spring rolls were not very good, the rice paper was chewey like they were yesterday's. The satay chicken was dry, very dry & they forgot the dip. I ordered lemongrass chicken, again chicken was dry & definately not fresh (no taste of lemongrass whatsoever) with noodles that were luke warm, served immediately after our soup & salad was served which did not allow for completing soup or salad as the main course would have gone cold. Therefore all of us had to leave our soups & salads. The others had the lemongrass beef which was OK but definately not great. We did tell them it was a birthday celebration but no effort was made to wish our guest happy birthday. So I have downgraded my review. This downgrade is a result of 2 other recent encounters at lunch where both service & food were mediocre. Sorry, that is not good enough. If I eat out & have a $30 per person lunch, I want excellent food & service. I will never return here as there are too many great places to eat. This resturant started out great, however it has rapidly gone downhill. A Fall from Grace in my opinion!
Excellent food. We had lunch with a variety of appetizers. Spring roll, Calamari, chicken satay skewers, everything was delish. For lunch we had a variety of dishes and everything was great. The service was excellent....
