Came here today with a group of friends for a birthday. Had a great time listening to music and tasing some wines. I ended up purchasing a bottle for $35, but didn’t have to sign any receipt. When I asked the bartender about it, she just offered to tell me my total, which was $40. I thought $5 for tax was a little high but didn’t think too much of it until our group had moved outside to enjoy a glass of wine. My friend, who bought the same glass of wine, checked her bank statement and was charged $39. She also thought it was weird that she didn’t have to sign when paying with credit card. I decided to go back in and ask the bartender for a receipt. She ended up printing me a receipt from the computer where I saw I was charged $2 for tip. When I asked her about it, she acted really confused like “oh, there’s a tip on there? Oh shoot, I must have pressed the wrong button.” Then I explained that that meant my friend was charged a $1 tip to which she replied again she must have hit the wrong button. I just thought that was soooo shady. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for a long time and you don’t have to work at a job very long to get used to where the buttons are on the iPad/POS. She offered to refund me, but I was more upset at the principle of it than the actual $2. I was actually planning to tip her $5 but never had the opportunity to. I’m not sure why this happened, but it seemed like we weren’t the first ones she’s done that to. So if you go here, make sure YOU are the one to click the buttons on the iPad yourself after handing...
Read moreTook a pre-Christmas day trip last week - no agenda, stopped in Sutter Creek to get some air and wandered into this tasting room. Small, some family pictures, minimal "wine country cuteness"; a good sign for me.
The wine built up from good to great and every wine was solid, no dumb Chardonnay filler wines on the list. For me, the 100% 2011 Tempranillo was epic, tannic, going to need years to come together but got me re-focused on what this varietal might do in the Foothills. Estate grown in Fairplay. I hope there are plans for more vintages of this!
We ended up with two bottles of 2012 del Maggio, a field blend that will be drinkable for the holidays: another attention getter if not a trophy wine. Better than some wines I have had at twice the price.
We will be back; being impressed with no nonsense tasting and the skill of...
