We recently went here with a group of four. We’ve heard good things and we anxious to try it. This is typical of many pizza places where you order at the counter and then find a seat. Unfortunately the staff is comprised of kids, some of whom don’t really take their job very seriously.
The restaurant could use some fresh management. There were dirty wine glasses hanging near the register and flies everywhere. Speaking of wine, we felt like sticking with wine after a day of tasting. Upon first glance I thought it was beer, soda, or nothing. But then I noticed at the very bottom of the menu it said “wine - $8.” So when I got up to the register I asked for a wine list. I was told there’s one on the wall but it’s not up to date. So I asked what kind of whites they had. The young lady goes over to the wine refrigerator (kudos for having one by the way,) pulls out a drawer and looks at the bottles, then returns and says: “we have a chardonnay, a riesling, a sauvignon blanc, and I forget the rest.” Awesome! I love the honesty. I made my order but wow…there is room for improvement!
The pizza was fine…nothing much to say. We sat outside and the flies would not leave us alone. There is only one pizza place in old town so I think the restaurant will do fine, but there are so many ways they could improve. I will list some below:
-Offer pitchers so that large groups can bring a lot of water to the table without having to fill individual cups at your soda machine -Consider glassware instead of using a thousand plastic cups per week -invest in ways to reduce the number of flies! -Serve your pizzas with an extra pizza pan to use as a cover to keep flies off -Consider paying higher wages to attract workers over the age of 17 -Consider making a wine list to hand to your patrons who ask for it, one that...
Read moreThis is our favorite pizza place & well worth the hour drive for us to get there! We have never been disappointed, it is always perfect. Try the "Gold Digger" if you are a carnivore, it is LOADED with deliciousness.
EDIT: We ate there on 12-31-18 & it was HORRIBLE! 2 pizzas & one order of breadsticks took over an hour to make. The woman who took our order also delivered our food to the table was incredibly rude. First things delivered were the breadsticks & one of the pizzas. The breadsticks were the wrong kind. When e pointed that out to her, she said "oh well" & walked away. 20 minutes later when our second pizza was delivered, it was wrong as well. She rolled her eyes & grabbed it to take it back. We were super hungry so told her we would take it as-is. She said "this isn't your pizza, it's still in the oven". Another 20 minutes later, she delivered the exact same pizza, lukewarm, with ^most^ of the mushrooms picked off. Some were still there though.....something that can be extremely dangerous to people with allergies. We watched as a person from another large group spoke with this same worker, telling her how disappointed they were as well. This worker said "oh well" to her also, then turned away from the customer, dramatically rolling her eyes. Really?? She appeared to be the only adult working, along with a few teens. Try to set an example! Oh, when we asked for plates, she said "we don't have any". WHAT?? What pizza place doesn't have paper plates? Sheesh.....run to Walmart & buy some!! We used napkins as plates, which was very messy. I'm sure we will give our favorite place another try sometime & hope this visit was just a fluke. But if it is like this again, they have lost some loyal customers. Rating changed from 5 stars...
Read moreTucked in the charming little town of Sutter Creek, Gold Dust Pizza is a hidden gem with a unique mix of character, quality, and casual vibes. Walking into the restaurant, you’ll immediately notice it’s small inside—cozy, even—but what they lack in indoor space, they more than make up for with not one but two outdoor patios. The backyard patio offers a relaxed, shaded setting perfect for slow afternoons, while the front patio lets you soak in the town’s old-school charm and people-watch between slices.
Now, let’s talk about the pizza—because that’s where Gold Dust really shines. The pizza we had was absolutely amazing. Generously piled with fresh, flavorful toppings, every bite felt thoughtfully made. The crust? Somehow crispy, even under all those layers of gooey cheese and savory ingredients. It’s clear that this place doesn’t cut corners when it comes to their pie game.
On the flip side, the drink selection left a bit to be desired—no ciders or seltzers, which was a bummer for those of us not into beer or soda. And when it comes to service, it’s pretty no-nonsense. You walk up, place your order, they give you a number, and that’s kind of it. Not rude by any means, but don’t expect much in the way of small talk or over-the-top friendliness. In their defense, both times I’ve visited, they’ve been absolutely slammed, so I can’t blame the staff for being in heads-down, get-it-done mode.
That said, the vibe, the patio seating, and most importantly, the top-tier pizza more than make up for the minimal interaction. It’s the kind of place you go when you’re craving something delicious and want to soak in a laid-back, unpretentious atmosphere. Gold Dust Pizza may not charm you with smiles, but they’ll win you over with every...
