My visit to Mr. R's was very similar to John Everyman's...
I had a coupon for Mr. R's from the Entertainment Book (Buy One 19'' Sub, Get the Second Free -- Up to a $5.00 value) which enticed me to give it a try. When seeing this coupon I figured that these subs would maybe be $5.00-$7.00 at the most which would make this a great deal. I am fairly new to the area and had never heard of this place before.
I went with a friend and he arrived at Mr. R's before I did; he sat and talked with Mr. R while Mr. R told him how good his subs and rolls were. When I arrived, we finally ordered two 19'' subs. Looking at the menu was a bit frustrating -- There were no prices whatsoever anywhere in the store; again, I thought to myself "How much can one of these subs cost?" While I was placing my order, Mr. R asked if I wanted some vegetables on my sub that any typical sub shop would ask about. I didn't realize it, but I was charged $.50 for each extra item I agreed to have put on my sub.
For two 19'' subs (one turkey and one italian) the total cost of our subs were going to be around $30, making them about $15 a piece. With the $5.00 off coupon, the subs were around $25 and it brought the price down to about $12.50 a piece.
I was expecting a sub that was going to be worth the $12.50 that I had paid; after having a few bites, I was a bit disappointed at both the sub and myself for paying that much for a sub that tasted like any other sub I could have bought from Giant or Subway.
I will not be returning to Mr. R's again. Sorry Mr. R, but your prices are just...
Read moreI usually only ever write a review if something is really bad or good. Unfortunately it isn't the latter. After driving by Mr R's countless times and reading good things I decided to give it a go. Not only are there no menus with prices anywhere, the menu they have above the counter doesn't have anything about chicken or wings. You'd think a place advertising chicken and wings on the sign outside would mention it inside somewhere right? So after placing my order I'm told they don't have mashed potatoes, which didn't bother me too much but when you want a specific item to eat it's disappointing when they're out of it once you place the order (strike 1). So after getting home with my fries, fried chicken and cole slaw, I notice... they didn't put in my cole slaw. That was strike 2, trying to stay upbeat I didn't let it bother me because my day was going well and I just ready to enjoy some good fried chicken which I had wanted all day. It looked good, smelled fine, and was honestly some of the worst fried chicken I've ever had. I didn't expect it to be amazing, just good because it's "MR R'S FRIED CHICKEN". So that was strike 3 for me and I'll continue to drive on past from now on. KFC, Popeye's, and the fried Chicken from Giant in Middletown have much better fried chicken then this place. I'm a big guy and have never been a picky eater but I honestly felt like I wasted my money and gas by going...

It can get pretty busy in here and for darn good reason. We all plan to go here for lunch every single time we are in the area for work. The bread is so soft and super fresh. Want the best sub you've ever had? This is where...
