Pho Tai — Restaurant in Tacoma

If I could give NEGATIVE STARS I WOULD!!! I am a home health nurse, I spend all day treating patients, and I rarely get the chance to eat. I stopped in to this restaurant to eat lunch, I told the staff member that I was going to make a to go order and I just needed to use the restroom before I made the order. I went into the bathroom, and the paper towel dispenser was jammed, so I messed with it a little bit and got it and jammed. Proceeded to use the restroom, and one of the employees at this restaurant, after about three or four minutes of being in the bathroom, started banging on the door and telling me that I needed to come out and that there were people waiting. Ice told her I am using the restroom I will be out when I'm done, and a few seconds later the same employee came back and started banging on the door very violently and yelling saying that people were waiting and I could not use the restroom. The restroom is open and available to all customers. Although it is not that clean, it is not an unusable facility. When I finished washing my hands, I opened the door to see nobody waiting in line. I walked up to the counter and asked who was banging on the door and one of the employees pointed to a lady. I asked this lady if this is how she treated all of her customers. She said to me verbatim, " there are people waiting in line and you took a really long time in the bathroom and that is not allowed!" I told her, there is absolutely not one person in line, the other bathroom is open, and your paper towel holder was broken and I fixed it. It does not matter if I take two minutes or 10 minutes in the bathroom, as a paying customer, I can use the restroom. I'm pretty sure that is the right of any paying customer. I told the lady, "what if I was sick? What if I needed to take a little bit longer than normal? I was in there for no longer than three minutes, there is absolutely no reason why you should be violently and loudly banging on the door and yelling at a customer multiple times to get out of a bathroom when you have absolutely no reason to treat anybody that way". Horrible customer service, very rude and disrespectful, and I decided that I was not going to order any food or support this business because of the massive amount of disrespect that I received. I have never been treated this way at a restaurant in my life. The way that she treated me was bad enough for me to skip lunch and go back to work. A great combination of good food, large portions, and low prices.

Food: Having tried the Pho, Vietnamese sandwiches, and bun's (rice noodle salads,) fried and fresh roll as well as the smoothies I can safely say they all taste great and are affordable. If you find yourself really hungry you can upgrade to a large Pho for only $1 more, but I find the regular size to fill me up just fine. I also think they make their own fried rolls because they seem to have that home made quality about them that other places are missing.

Dine in experience: A lot of reviewers complained about the cleanliness of the store. I think they might be under new management because things seemed clean and well kept when I came in this week. I saw the staff wiping down tables and the bathroom seemed to meet my expectations for a strip mall restaurant. I asked the waitress and she confirmed in the last few months a new family has taken over the business.

Taking food home: If you need a fast easy meal to take home, you might want to consider ordering a few Pho for the family. My sisters kids love to get Pho taken home after a long day at work. I personally find it healthier than burgers, pizza, or fried Chicken that they would normally consider. And in many cases I have found it costs few dollars less than other fast food options as well. I'm often surprised by how many kids love Pho and Vietnamese sandwiches who normally just eat burgers, hotdogs, and mac & cheese.

Pho was great however next time I will be getting it to go. I have never seen such horrible service. Me and my boyfriend were halfway through our meal when a very nice doctor gal walked In and told the waitress she had to use the bathroom before she ordered. I watched her walk in and not even 10 minutes later the waitress lady was banging on the door of the restroom yelling at the woman to come out. She then motioned for the other waitress to help get her out because they though she was using drugs In the restroom, again this was a DOCTOR, still In her scrubs and everything. The woman comes out of the restroom daily confused about the fuss and instead of apologizing for the miscommunication the waitress FLAT OUT LIES to her and tells her people were waiting in line, when there clearly wasn’t .
