Read more"I'll have the Bonney Lake, please" will never leave my mouth again.
Honest review time. I'm sorry, I just couldn't do the 2/5 as I was driving home from my FIRST time at Trapper's Sushi in Tacoma. Story time.
Arrived to Trapper's around 3:30pm. We were pleasantly greeted at the front, which turned out to be about the only thing that went well at this restaurant. They told us it would be around 15-20 minutes if we wanted to sit up at the "all you can eat" counter-top. We agreed, and took our places in line. Around 3:55pm, we were seated up at the counter-top. A couple minutes later someone came by and took our drink orders, which also arrived promptly. This is really where our experience took a turn for the worst..
I sat right between two sushi windows. I thought that would make this process quicker because the party to my left was finished eating and had paid, and I had two chef's in front of me. Nope! It seemed like the young lady and the gentlemen behind the counter were most interested in talking to each other than serving us food.. Or drinks. Or even communicating with us whatsoever. It wasn't until 4:10pm that he asked me what I was hungry for.. "I'll have the Bonney Lake, please" I said. Keep in mind, the ingredients on the "All you can eat" menu don't tell you what's deep fried and what isn't..
Out of the FOUR dishes I have, THREE were deep-fried. Holy smokes. And THREE of the dishes were covered in.. Something unknown. Either imitation crab meat, or what seemed to be tiny circular noodles. It was just overwhelming. To make matters worse, we basically had to inconvenience the chef to make food. As if my presence was something that he didn't anticipate that day. Or ever before in history.
I'll admit the food was actually tasty when you removed all the toppings. Buried DEEP inside layers and layers of sauce soaked whatever-it-was, something delicious was there. Deep fried 75% of the time, but delicious.
What really topped the experience off though, was the "chef" in blue. What a guy. My friend had asked another chef "Isn't this supposed to come with tempura?" kindly, I'll add, when he mocked her OUT LOUD in earshot. Luckily, she didn't hear it.. And I opted to not say anything, but wow. It was unbelievable. If you're going to mock a paying customer, and we were paying customers believe me (the dinner "all you can eat" was $29 after tax which wasn't mentioned AT ALL DURING OUR ENTIRE STAY) do it in the back of the restaurant and lie to my face the rest of the time.
Horrible. Thanks Trapper's Sushi! Also, don't attempt to call the store to speak with a manager. It's been 2 hours now, and nothing. No call back. Called four times to speak with someone....
Read moreI really wanted to love this place but they really fell short of my expectations. Ordered four rolls for pickup on Valentine's Day using their online ordering system which was really easy to use and gave me a pickup time of 5:25pm, 60 minutes after I put in my order. Totally fine, it was Valentine's Day and probably pretty busy. It also gave me the option of curbside pickup which I selected and entered my details for, which I thought was a really service since it can be tough to find easy parking around there. My wife went to pick up the order on her way home from work and it started going downhill from there. There was no clear curbside pickup location so she ended up having to search for parking and go in. She checked in a few minutes before the pickup time and expected to have to wait a little bit. But as the clock passed 5:25 and other customers started coming in after her and picking up their orders right away, she checked with the host again and they told her it was almost ready. This happened about every 10 minutes over the next half hour where they just kept telling her it was "almost ready." Finally about 6:00 they brought out our order, 35 minutes after the already 60 minutes they told us it would take. If I hadn't already added a tip online, we would not have left a tip. If they had told us that it would take an hour and a half up front, that would have been fine, but making people wait when you clearly haven't even started their food is a waste of time, and not how anyone wants to spend time after work especially on Valentine's Day.
Furthermore, the sushi itself was mostly disappointing, definitely not worth the $75 we paid and the time we waited for it. The rolls we got were mediocre at best, except for the Monster Roll which was delicious! Also, I had specified on the customizations offered that I wanted Ginger only and no wasabi. Well, each container of ginger had a glob of wasabi right on top of it, infecting all the ginger with its spiciness and making it inedible for me. If you're not going to pay attention to the customizations, why offer them? Unfortunately, I'll be unsubscribing from their loyalty program that I signed up for after creating my order and will not be...
