As a vegetarian I'm not pleased - they've really cut down the vegetarian menu and I simply can't eat there. I don't understand why in the middle of Takoma Park you'd do that!
I can get why you'd want to make a new menu BUT before scrapping the only options for a significant part of your market shouldn't you have other options available? It's pathetic, I can make a grilled cheese at home and the parmesan eggplant is ok but not stellar. I'm not trying to pay an arm and leg for charcuterie, I don't eat salads for lunch and with digestive issues your chili is a no-go.
It's not that hard to have good Veggie options, you have so many great sandwiches that if you wanted to make them veg you could easily do so which tells me you just don't care about locals like me who have been here for decades. What's even worse is that going back nearly 30 years the restaurant at that location has always had amazing veg sandwiches, be it vegan chicken at Savory or a pesto egg and cheese from Capitol City Cheesecake.
From a marketing standpoint this makes no sense - I was going to order a banh mi and grab a 6 pack at a location that has historically always served me with great Veggie options. I'm a built in, ready made customer and they decided hey, her money isn't worth my time. They're so expensive that the only time I buy any beer or wine is if I'm getting a sandwich.
Welp, good bye girl and vine. You don't value me as a customer, I don't value your stupidly expensive items (which are cheaper if you simply go to ANY other store, including the liquor store about 1 mile away...
Read moreWhat a cute shop with 3 levels, and outdoor seating. Top level has a wine bar for 21+, 1st floor is where the main cash register is located and some crackers, cheese miscellaneous food items, and basement has their kitchen and a few small tables for seating, and some more food products they sell (like a mini mart). There is free parking behind the restaurant. There is a back entrance from the parking lot that leads to the top floor where the wine/alcohol is served. There are 2 individual bathrooms located on the top floor as well. We don't drink alcohol, so we went down to the 1st level to check out their other products offered. The front entrance leads to the first floor.
We came here because we heard from a local that they sell coffee there, and we ordered a Chai Latte and Oatmilk latte. The lady staff was so kind, friendly and welcoming, and guided us to sit down and the drinks will be brought to us. We opted to sit in the basement. There are a few small tables there. My daughter and I really enjoyed our chai latte. It was delicious. However, the oatmilk latte was a little on the sour/acidic side for our taste. But we'd definitely come back to try their sandwiches in the future, hopefully when the weather gets warmer and we can sit outdoors.
Their google map hours said they close at 6pm on Tuesday, but we found out that they close at 8pm. So you should call ahead to check on their hours. Also, they're not open early in...
Read moreThe Girl and The Vine is a market, deli, and cafe that opened in April 2019 in Takoma Park, Maryland just passed the Takoma Main Street. There's wood seating in the patio outside and once you walk in, you'll see the market part of the store (they sell local products too like Small Planes Roastery coffee beans). Signs will direct you downstairs for the wine shop and deli (try their famous mac and cheese) and upstairs for the cafe. The cafe is spacious with several tables and a long bar off to the side.
I ventured into The Girl and The Vine on Friday afternoon for lunch. I ordered a deliciously refreshing glass of Sauvignon blanc white wine and the chicken schnitzel BLT sandwich (I was sold when I found out it came topped with a pickled green tomato). My entire order was perfectly filling, delicious, and only came to $20.
