Bumpa's Local 349 — Restaurant in Tallahassee

I came this past Tuesday 6/21/22 for lunch with my mother in between her medical appts. I ordered the chicken sandwich which has pesto on it. I love pesto and am aware that it is made with pine nuts (typically). Unfortunately theirs is made with walnuts, an ingredient I am surprised is not identified on the menu given that many people like myself have allergies to nuts, this one in particular. I did not think to ask about any specifics about this meal as it seemed straight forward and again I thought I knew what I was ordering. My body figured it out after a bite or two. We alerted the staff and they were apologetic in confirming that the pesto is made with walnuts. They took the sandwich off the bill. I left quickly to get Benadryl and use my EpiPen in the car. My mother stayed to pay the bill and tipped based on the original check amount (before the deduction). The bill was paid by card, and she tipped in cash, leaving specifically 8, one dollar bills. Now the reason I am really writing this review is not so much that I had an allergic reaction to a major food allergen that was not identified on the menu. But that Bumpa's, (waitress, manager, or whoever), added an additional 3 dollars to the signed copy of the credit card receipt, as if they felt they were shorted or entitled to extra gratuity in some way. Again the cash tip reflected no less than 20% of the bill BEFORE the sandwich was deducted. People that do not have food allergies may believe the blame lies with the consumer when things like this happen, but in this day and age there is no reason to not list the major food allergens on the menu. A tiny asterisk next to something really wouldn't hurt, especially when liability should be a concern to any establishment. Now the tip thing?!?!?!? No extra words needed there....

Five stars - and here's why:

Service. Not "over-the-top", but certainly attentive and respectful. Chase was our server today and he made it his mission to ensure that we were satisfied throughout our meal. Congenial guy - and I suspect Bumpa's hires accordingly. From the host to the server to the busser, we felt as though there was genuine care and concern for us.

Food. Straight-up, this menu features unexpected options - not just from a Sports Bar - but from ANY restaurant. I went with the Bologna Sandwich (the signature sandwich, I would suspect) and Dad went with Tea's Fish & Chips sandwich. The Bologna Sandwich is great - and rich as hell. Seriously - it is not for the faint. My father's "Tea's Fish & Chips Sandwich" was a genuine surprise. a single piece of perfectly battered and fried cod, bunned up and fully hand-held. I've seen less fish in a traditionally newspapered order of Fish & Chips. The fish was moist - tender - downright delicious (and I'm not one to drone on and on about Fish & Chips...).

Ambiance. Impeccable, spacious, well-lit, fully-screened (as a Sports Bar ought to be). No expense was spared in converting the beloved CJ's that previously occupied this spot into a fully overhauled Bumpa's - the first of what I predict will be a growing number in the South-East.

Bumpa's is a MUST for those who are seeking a place to: 1. watch the big game, 2. want to take the path-less-traveled in terms of menu options, and 3. enjoy a clean...

Awful! We have been here several times and recommended it to friends, came with a 12 top. Our server, Tiffany (according to the receipt) was tied up with a table behind us and paid us zero attention. After being seated no one came to us for 20 minutes, food and drinks were ordered at the bar. Had to ask for things several times before a different waitress brought it out, got our own silverware and basically anything else we needed. Complained to the manager but no real response. When we were charged for something we didn't order and it had to be removed we got attitude from the waitress who chatted with her friends the whole evening. Very disappointed. If the owner is reading this, we love Gordos and have until tonight loved Bumpas but this was the worst experience we have had in a restaurant. Hopefully you will do something to make sure this doesn't happen to any other of your loyal patrons. That server should not have been assigned a table if she could not provide them the same service as all the other tables in...
