The Denny's restaurant in Monroe Florida just west of Tallahassee and located in a great Flying J truck stop is one if the largest Denny's restaurant I've eaten in. This restaurant looks to be freshly remodeled not to long ago and is clean and tidy as most Denny's are.
Why would my wife and I eat at a Denny's restaurant over say another restaurant chain?
STANDARDS. Denny's, now mostly franchised still maintain a tight set if standards that are consistent from restaurant to restaurant. Denny's sends out a driving manager that has one job. His or her sole purpose is to travel From restaurant to restaurant and observe and guide the restaurant staff if there are any inconsistent products (I watched him use a tape measure on a pancake) If that's not adhering to a standard I dont know what is
(I spoke with this gentleman named Frank after watching him. He was in the restaurant when we came in for breakfast and was still there later when we came back for an awesome hamburger 8hrs later. ) More on Denny's burgers later.
Again, why Denny's. Awesome sirloin steaks. Freshly prepared squash, broccoli or other veggies. Variety. Every 3 months or so they rotate several items on the menu and add a few too. Pancakes, omg, can they kill it with their pancakes. About a year ago I guess, they introduced a new pancake recipe. I was pretty hesitant as the original were great.
Well the manager or General Manager came to us while the server was taking our order and heard me talking it over with my wife. She said she would personally guarantee their Deliciousness. Wel since I couldn't go wrong I said yes please to the servers suggestion if Adding pancakes to our meal.
The manager never had to make good on the guarantee, these fluffy big melting butter trying to slide over towards the plate stack of goodness. While I was smearing the butter between the cakes I accidently ate a bite. Whoops might have been 10. Almost forgot the syrup. They really don't need it they are that good.
Needed to poop after breakfast and thinking, oh great no restroom in the restaurant have to use the "truckers" bathroom. I asked our hostess at the front if te restaurant and she pointed to the men's room nit 20feet out the door. I tentatively opened the men's room door half expecting to get blasted by some unidentified odors but no, all ok so fsr. Creep a bit further and wow, while it may be slightly dated, it looked like every trucker before my arrival had personally cleaned up after themselves. Nit even water from hand washing on the counter. Very clean and well kept restroom. After our delightful breakfast we were ready to hit the road east bound. My wife Milly said. Now Herb, dont forget how I like my coffee hot and creamy. Forget how she likes it, I had forgotten to even get the coffee o go. So I amble over to the coffee. OMG ,,, this isn't your regular ol stale starchange coffee. I mean these are state of the art, choose you blend, country of origin color of roast then brew size and strength. I've died and gone to the great roaster in the sky.
Well on the road again googling where a Denny's is for lunch in a few hours.
Well I have to tell you, the Denny's in the Flying J was a great choice. Great staff, awesome food and parking, fuel and a giant gift shop well really a trucker's playground. And, clean restrooms and coffee and... ok that enough, you get the drift.
Ok. HEY LADY, the coffee is kicking in. Milly, please stop at the next rest...
Read moreWhile at this establishment I ordered a sandwich with no tomatoes. I ask for that because I am allergic to tomatoes. When the sandwich came out it had tomatoed on it, I requested the server have it remade. Sidenote, everyone allergic reactions are different. Thankfully, my allergic breakouts only consist of swollen lip swollen eyes and a lot a lot of itching and hives. Had I been extremely allergic my tongue could have swelled up and if I had no EpiPen I could have died. That whole hypothetical situation could have also happen very fast, again thankfully my allergic reactions are very slow acting. It is rude to assume because someone has is allergic to tomatoes it’s no big deal. The 2nd time they brought back the same sandwich without the tomato’s, I requested again that the server have my sandwich made over. Both times the server went to the store manager and was given instructions on what to do. The third time the sandwhich came to the table, when I start eating it I noticed that the meet was not as hot as if it was freshly made. Here’s where I should’ve stopped but crazy me I trust people to do what is asked. Well long story short, 4 o’clock in the morning after leaving establishment I wake up itching and having hives now at seven in the morning my top lip is swelling. With my swelling it usually takes a whole 24 hours before the swelling goes down. Today June 9 is my birthday and I have activities planned all day and now I have to walk around with a fat lip. All because the ghetto night manager, waitress, and cook decided they didn’t want to remake my sandwich. They rather run a game that my sandwich was remade when all they did was remove the tomatoes that already touch the other parts of my sandwich off of it and give me new bread. That is rude and disrespectful I could literally sue the brakes off for this company, but I preferred that they would really train their staff. They need to take people’s allergies very seriously no matter if they’ve experienced it or not or they’re used to seeing it or not. Then on top of that the manager at that time was very rude and ghetto, she never once came and address the problem. Seen the back-and-forth and the inconvenience it was taking for me to just eat you would’ve thought they would’ve remake the sandwich and my sides for free. Oh but instead they charge me twice for my side of vegetables. My church and I eat at that Denny’s a lot after church service, or after special event. A lot of the servers could pick out our faces because we eat there that much. We spend good money in this establishment is sad that we can’t be treated as humans enough that you can just...
Read moreMy family and I decided to visit Denny’s after church service on New Year’s, along with many others. Upon walking in, the manager and a server were standing at the counter. The manager informed us that there would be at least a 30-minute wait before we could be seated. This seemed odd since the entire left side of the restaurant was filled with empty booths, and the server was only attending to the three occupied booths in the restaurant.
Nevertheless, we decided to wait. While waiting, other patrons came in and were told the same thing. Many opted to leave. To our surprise, the cook loudly yelled, “Don’t seat any more people,” and instructed the staff not to take additional orders. The staff’s behavior was not only unprofessional but outright rude and dismissive. They openly voiced their unwillingness to work and turned away several groups without any explanation or apology.
What was baffling was why the restaurant was even open if the staff had no intention of serving guests or doing their jobs. We overheard the manager telling the server not to work hard, as they weren’t going to serve anyone else. This is unacceptable for a national chain. I’m sure the owners are unaware that their business is being managed so poorly, especially on one of the busiest nights of the year.
We eventually decided to leave after witnessing other parties being turned away. The lack of professionalism, poor customer service, and dismissive attitude of the staff made for a deeply disappointing experience. This location desperately needs an overhaul in management and training to meet the standards expected from a chain...
