they have tres leches. what more do i need to say? (posted one year before today 2018-05-11)
today 2018-05-11: me and two associates came in for dinner as we have many Fridays in the last two years. me and one other in my party ordered the "$5 veggie entree" as we have ordered on about six prior occasions (often served by Manuel). food was served and bills were presented. we were charged $8.99 plus tax for each of the veggie entrees. my associate wanted to complain as i did but after i complained and he witnessed the friction that followed, he decided to just pay it, which he did. my complaint process included being told by "annette" that she spoke to the manager on the phone and if i didn't pay it or the server pay it that the server would be fired. i commented that i was poor and couldn't pay extra after prices were agreed. and i commented thay my server Laura was probably poor too and shouldn't be required to pay. i offered to return what was left of the food (which wasn't much) or pay $5 plus tax and tip as agreed and finish the food. the second option they finally accepted. Manuel disputed that the plate had been $5 on previous visits. Manuel, do you want me to find the receipts? after we all paid and some time passed, Annette returned to the table as we were collecting out belongings to leave, and she informed us that since we commented that one of their servers was "probably poor" the they were requesting that we leave and never return. i apologised to the server for possibly hurting her feelings, a hurt that she never expressed. we left and plan to never return. but last i knew the tres leches...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of eating here. I have to say that the overall experience was tremendous. From the moment I stepped inside and the friendly staff seated me all the way to when I was finishing up my Cuban coffee after my meal and was leaving. Being one of the only Cuban restaurants in town, I was skeptical (I have tried the others, not impressed).
I ordered the croquetas to try and they were delicious, crispy on the outside and hot on the inside. The sauce they came with was so good I used it for my main meal. I decided to try the Palomilla steak with Moro and sweet Plantains and I was not disappointed. The steak was basically cooked to perfection and was so tender and flavorful with the sautéed onions on top that I had to pause and take it all in (no joke). It was served with a generous portion of Moro (mixed rice and beans) and Sweet plantains that added a burst of flavor and texture to the dish. After I finished eating I ordered a Cuban coffee to make the experience more authentic. I do not have a photo of this, but the aroma alone was enough to make my mouth water, and the taste was amazing. The coffee was strong, yet smooth, with just the right amount of sweetness. It was the perfect complement to finish my meal.
Overall, I must say that this Cuban restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was inviting, and the service was top-notch. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in town looking for an authentic Cuban dining experience. I will update my review when I...
Read moretl;dr Amazing service and food. Get the vaca frita with moros & sweet plantains, all the sauces, sangría and flan!
Seriously, a new favorite spot, I can't wait to go back. Ok so we went for an early-ish dinner (6:30) and it was maybe half full. Very mellow inside with simple decorations/atmosphere. Our waitress, Sarah Anne, gave us phenomenal recommendations and she brought everything out quickly and checked on us a few times (perfect #). We got beers (which came with chilled mugs), blackberry sangria (so good) and unsweetened tea (32 oz cup). Then we went straight for the entrees. The bowls looked great and were a great price (pick your meat, grains and toppings). Our friends really enjoyed the masitas and ropa vieja. We got the mahi and vaca frita. All of our dishes were very tasty but the vaca frita was one of those dishes you want to keep eating even after you're full because you just need another bite. Then we couldn't resist the fresh flan and churros. Again, just so good you don't even realize you're full. The guava & cream cheese pastry and afogado also sounded great.
Can't wait to go back and try...
