Visiting Tallahassee - the Florida Capitol - for a bit over a week, I had the opportunity to dine at Metro Deli several times. Whether on break from a class that I was taking - or meeting one of my clients - credit is due this little hole in wall just blocks from the seat of state government.
I quickly learned that making it to Metro Deli at 11:30-11:45 was a lot better than arriving at noon. Much shorter line and faster service. Not that I had a problem with the service, it's just I hate standing in lines.
I tried the Metro Box Lunch which is your choice of deli sandwich or wrap, chips, cookies and and a drink. I stuck to bottled water but tried the Hot Pastrami and Corned Beef a couple of times, along with the Mediteranian Turkey Melt, with hummus, feta cheese, lettuce, tomato, black olives, onion and Greek dressing. No issues with the food and everything was made to order.
Like I said - busy place with a very laid back atmosphere. Deli was clean - staff were polite and friendly. I spoke to several of the guys in charge of the sandwich making line and even the owner. After a few days, they thanked me for coming back several times over the course of the week. I even ran into a few social media friends that identified me by name, although I had no clue who they were. Has that ever happened to you?
Metered street parking - but I parked at the Doubletree by Hilton, where I was staying. From what I could see, the majority of customers were foot traffic from around the Capitol. Delivery service is available and was offered by the owner, although I forgot his name. Sorry...
Great place to eat and meet people. I will certainly visit next time I'm in Tallahassee.

My wife and I come periodically - not nearly as much as we'd like. Every time, however, I'm impressed with the team cohesion of these guys. Each one, from my discussions, handles himself as though he were an owner.
I'm a stickler for business cultures and I have an eye for strong ones and weak ones. These guys seem to form a tight cohesion in which everyone knows their own sphere of operations and executes very well.
There's no mistaking a metro-deli delivery guy. Swift on foot or bike and determined to get back to the deli after drop-off in order to distribute the next order.
I've already waxed on about the creativity of the food in my previous piece.
When you do come here - notice the service you receive. I'd be surprised if you weren't impressed.
The one modification that would make Metro Deli perfect is having to additional 2-tops out on the sidewalk. Let pedestrian traffic bisect through the middle. Pop a couple of umbrellas out there and you've got a genuine metropolitan sidewalk experience.
THAT would be putting the...
Read moreTERRIBLE SERVICE. Ordered an online order at 11:23 am. It arrived at 12:05 pm- not bad. HOWEVER, the order was wrong and the drink had spilled everywhere. I immediately called the delivery man back to tell him it was the wrong order. No answer. 12:10 pm- I call the restaurant, they say they will call the delivery man and have him come back with the right order. 12:30 pm- no sign of the delivery man so I call the restaurant again, they say he should be here any minute with my food. 12:45 pm- STILL NO DELIVERY MAN. 1:50 pm--- STILL NO DELIVERY MAN. Called the store again to which they replied, oh there was a miscommunication between us and the delivery driver and he threw the food away. We can remake it now. AT THIS POINT PEOPLE IT HAS BEEN OVER 2 HOURS SINCE I ORIGINALLY PLACED THE ORDER!! They also gave me an attitude and a hard time about wanting to be reimbursed for receiving the WRONG order and then waiting for a ridiculous amount of time to NEVER EVEN RECEIVE THE CORRECT ORDER. This is not the FIRST issue I have had with this restaurant. The food is good but it's NOT good enough for...
