A great museum in the heart of Tallahassee telling the story of Florida! The Museum of Florida History provides a permanent physical recreation and exhibition of the history of the state of Florida and its inhabitants, starting from its pre-historic beginnings. A surprisingly large exhibition space winds you through the timeline of history and offers well crafted exhibits, in which you can get lost for hours. In addition, there is large hall which houses the changing exhibition space, most recently on quilting and movies filmed in Florida. Overall, its a great addition to a tour of Tallahassee's museums, with a short walk to either the Challenger Center or the Florida Historic...

I love this place, and am only giving it a rating of 3 out of personal disappointment---no, actually because something of major historical significance is missing. There should be a major set of displays dedicated to the discovery, excavation, and conservation of the state's oldest shipwrecks, that of the three vessels of the 1559 Tristan de Luna fleet that sunk in Pensacola Bay that have thus far been excavated by the University of West Florida. I suspect there is something on display at one of the museums there but this really seems an oversight for THE MUSEUM OF FLORIDA HISTORY all-caps for emphasis. There were a few tertiary references to the ships but nothing...

So I am catching up on all my old haunts.

This one came up on my sons Civic school work and he lamented about missing the place.

He was like this place was "sick!" (Complimentary)

So🤔 not sure if he was referencing Grandma's Attic, the ship, the coloring table or the many exhibits?

It's so much and it is rich in history.

I enjoyed it and my kids went 2-3x a week the summer before my oldest started Kindergarten.

There's a cafe and they provided free parking with a token if you get it at the guard's desk or gift shop.

As it's under needed repair, I don't know how it will be later but this place is educational and had some cool ways to...

We didn't research this visit much but saw it was recommended. Both our boys (10 and 12) enjoyed the museum with different parts being hits. Even grandma's attic was a hit with some fun moments. Way more to see than my photos, a ton of history from the early native America days, through Spanish occupation, statehood and World War II. The surf display was a nice bonus. You can easily use up 2+ hours here so I'm guessing it would range from 1-3 hours depending on your speed. Definitely worth a visit. The parking is $5, but free if you get a token from the front desk. Total cost, $0!

Given that this place is free to visit AND park in the garage next door (with token from museum), I can’t complain. The kiddos (all under 7) enjoyed doing the scavenger hunt, but probably didn’t pick up much of the history. There are lots of random things to see in here. This is a great spot to go during the heat of the day to stay cool. Drinks, even WATER, is not allowed inside, so chug before you enter. We were forced to leave our bottles at the desk and pick them up on the way out.
