Updated for the move to the Florida Avenue brewery location: Huge improvement from the original location. Waaaay more space. Waaaay more parking. They have food now, including warm pretzels. However, the food menu is not great. I'm sure some - maybe many - will like it, or even love it. But, can I get just a basic cheeseburger? Lastly, the bar staff experience is subpar, which is a similar complaint I had with the original location. Indifferent. No joy. No service with a smile. Also, as very often happens, beer spilled over the edge of the glass onto the outside of the glass. Most breweries I have visited will clean the glass before handing it over to the customer (I've seen a squirt bottle used in many places). Not here. I was given a glass with the outside of the glass covered in beer, which then got on my hands. Overall, I love the new place and especially love the beers, which are truly special - world class - but there is room for improvement with the taproom experience.
Updating my review again. See first revision below. Taking down to 4 stars after visiting the taproom about half a dozen times since the last revision. The beer is still great but the taproom is below average. Too small, too cramped, too loud (low ceiling, hard reflective surfaces), music ranges from excellent to unbearable (subjective, I know, but why is it always loudest when it's unbearable), barkeeps are among my least favorite of all the of the several spots in my rotation, and parking is limited and haphazard. My wife doesn't want to come here anymore. She pointed out that very few women ever seem to be there - at least when we're there. There are two taprooms within spitting distance that are spacious and comfortable with welcoming staff - I just wish their beers were better. I'll still come here, but without my wife, so therefore much less often.
Updating my review from a year or two ago. Since that time, I've visited 50 or so breweries in the Tampa Bay area and probably another 30 or more in other parts of the country. In terms of beer quality, AC is one of the top 3 in the area and one of the very best in the state. That's saying something. If you want good beer, I highly recommend a trip to AC. They focus more on dark beer. And they do it extraordinarily well. They also do an excellent job with other styles. The tap room itself is nothing extraordinary. It's rather small. No food is offered. Parking is limited. Service is fine. But so what. If it's about the beer, AC's tap room is one of the best places to be in the...
Read moreA new addition to Seminole Heights and definitely welcomed. When I got there I noticed they only had one guest beer, that was a hard cider on tap and about six house brews. Not bad but I would have liked more, possibly some craft bottled beer selections would have been a nice touch. Nevertheless, I had the stout and it was phenomenal tasting. I also tried their Red. Verdict, also good.
The venue has a very trendy atmosphere. Unfortunately, for my taste it does not have that warm friendly inviting feeling. Almost feels a bit pretentious and sterile to me. The place is very well decorated with unique decor and wall hangings throughout the establishment. Nothing like it in Seminole Heights area. A unique and novel feature of Angry Chair are the old tractor seats used throughout the establishment. Very cool! However, one downside of this (maybe for the good or bad) is the chairs don't move. They are basically anchored to the floor. It keeps your space personal but impossible to move the chairs to re-position your seat position, especially at the table top seating.
The color of the interior is a bit drab with dark grey cement flooring and subtle grey/blue colored walls. The ceiling is open style rafters. The walls have unique three dimensional art hangings. Who ever came up with the design of this place put a lot of thought and care in making the space unique.
The service was good but I just never felt at home. I really measure a new place on my feeling after the first few minutes of sitting down and how well the bartenders make me feel. Might just take some time for them to get the hang of it as the place just did open a couple weeks ago.
Don't get me wrong! This place is very nice and they really paid attention to the decor and style. I commend them for what they have done, excellent job with the space! It just happens to not be my style but I will...
Read moreWe tried Angry Chair when a friend of ours was hosting a birthday get-together there. We live in the neighborhood so thought it was finally a great opportunity to try them out! We looked at the menu before arriving and online there was mention of a daily happy hour. Upon attempting to order, we asked about happy hour and were told that they don't have that? But they were doing Oktoberfest so we could order from that special menu.
In general, we really enjoy lagers, wheat beers, stouts, sours, and goses so we ordered accordingly. I wish I could remember the beers we ordered but we ordered at least 4 different beers. 1 sour, 1 stout, 1 lager, and 1 wheat beer. The sours and the stouts were essentially candy. They were entirely way too sweet. I was so thankful we ordered the little 5 oz size to taste test. We couldn't find one beer that we enjoyed but others seemed to enjoy some of the IPAs. We, unfortunately, do not like IPAs so maybe this isn't the brewery for us? I would like to come back to try some of their new beers since it seems like they rotate quite a bit. I would just like to try them first before paying for something I don't enjoy.
As for food!!!!! They killed it. Both my wife and I said we would 100% return for the food alone. We ordered the cheese curds and the wings, tossed in Honey Old Bay. Both were SPOT ON!! Crispy wings in delicious sauce and the curds were exactly as they should be; crispy and niiiice and stretchy. YUM! Others in our group ordered the burgers and really enjoyed them as well.
Overall, I wouldn't come if I was craving beer but I would definitely return if I was craving some...
