There’s something quite concerning when a seemingly valued customer shares their concerns about a place they used to love; and the response by management is oblivious, defensive, and retaliatory instead of concern. They could’ve used the review as an opportunity to look inward and make adjustments.
Did they? Sadly, no.
Of course, I am talking about the 1 star review that was posted a few days ago. Never have I seen a review carry so much truth and weight. Never have I seen a review resonate with so many of the regular customers.
So many conversations were had in secret regarding our admiration and agreement with the review. But we were careful not to publicly approve of it in fear that “the ones in charge” might ban or exile us.
That’s the way it goes at Bula. They see and hear everything. With or without your permission. Your privacy isn’t yours when you sit in those stools.
The outcry and response, the feedback from the people was amazing to see. The concerns that so many customers were thinking for themselves but too afraid to voice was finally validated.
It was beautiful.
A week filled with wonderful conversations and critical dialog about a place so many of us once loved. And we pondered; could it get better? Or is this the way it’s going to be from now on?
I want to be crystal clear. That review wasn’t for your casual Bula customer. That review wasn’t for the regular “John Doe” that just stumbled upon this place. You’d be a fool to assume so.
That review isn’t for the common patron who visits once, maybe twice a week, for a drink or two, spending 10-15 minutes tops inside.
That review was for the regulars. 2-4 hours a day, 5 days a week regulars!
It’s easy to accumulate a lot of raving reviews from people who aren’t regulars. They just haven’t hung around long enough to truly see what goes on behind the curtain.
But what about the regulars? What about the patrons that freely give of their hard earned money day in and day out?
The truth hurts. But that isn’t an invitation to double down on what motivated and inspired that review. They basically heard “we think you’re racist” and their response? Act more racist.
It was revealed that “the man” in charge was actually asking patrons and employees to report the review! They were strategic with “who” they asked of course. So they thought.
The hatred and contempt they have when the truth is in their face is disappointing.
This place, this community was built on the backs of creatives, regulars, and good honest people desiring a haven where community could flourish. Where ideas could be shared.
A place free of criticism, racism, double standards, white-preference, and judgement.
It’s a sad day when the very people who have raised Bula up are the ones voicing their concern and disappointment with how they are being treated.
This isn’t just about Logan and his bi-weekly “Logan Show” where ears are held hostage to the musings of a narcissist. This isn’t about the “home wrecker” kavatender and her thirst for acceptance by anyone who would acknowledge her. This isn’t even about a delusional and narcissistic manager who staffs the place with her “boy toys” so she can have her cake and eat it too.
This is bigger than that. It’s not about their secrets and shortcomings.
It’s about truth and what is right.
This place is filled with hate and judgment. This place is filled with rude kavatenders and disrespectful management. This place is running rampant with lies and discrepancies in regard to how a human should be treated.
Hidden behind a smile.
Gotta drink the kool-aid to be accepted into this new dysfunctional circle.
A word of warning. Let me hear once more that management is asking certain people to report posts and spread misinformation and I’ll come with receipts!
I’ve shown grace by not speaking on specifics. But if you want to play dirty… we can get muddy.
This place is littered with wolves in sheep’s clothing.
Uday, change it.
Gabs, don’t be so ugly. Your insides are showing and it doesn’t look good on you.

Management decided not to put the people first and follow "a vision" ... I guess that vision includes firing Kavatenders who actually care about their patrons and hiring new ones that only care about themselves.
Want poor customer service? Go there when Logan is working. He'll tell you all about himself and him alone. Just don't ask for anything special or custom, it hurts his head to work. But you'll hear a lot about Stetson!
Want to feel judged and ignored at the same time? Go there when Cassandra is working. She spends more time looking in a mirror and at her phone. When she does look at you, it's with a fake smile and a cold tone.
I guess Gabi’s vision includes robbing the Polynesian and Bohemian culture and grossly turning it into an aesthetic suitable for a lighter skinned crowd. A stolen culture, turned into an aesthetic, presented by an anti-culture, "sleeps with the male staff" manager.
People with deep pockets used to call Bula their home. But I guess too much progressive music, fellowship, culture, and uniqueness doesn't fit the culture appropriated vibe they're currently going for.
Gotta be white, hippy, and easy on Gabi’s eyes to get the special treatment. The crowd evolved from a melting pot of warm cultured Kava lovers; to whitewashed, pretentious ego-moochers that all look like they belong in an H&M catalog.
I feel sorry for the good employees that they have left. They're surrounded by selfish, self-centered, clueless leaders.
