Today was my first, and most likely last time going to this restaurant. I was excited for the visit as the reviews were mostly positive, and I was looking forward to the pancakes. My nephew and I were greated and brought to a table that first had to be cleaned while we stood in the middle of the restaurant waiting on the greeter to finish, then she pointed at the table and motioned for us that it was clear. Our server was polite and brought our drinks while giving us extra time to look over the menu as it was our first time. My nephew ordered the Pancake meal (2 pancakes, breakfast meat, 2 eggs- $10.95), which he chose Portuguese sausage and 2 over-easy eggs, with the additional $2.50 upcharge for chocolate chip pancakes. I also ordered the Pancake meal with Portuguese sausage, but with the omelet (scrambled tri-folded eggs-nothing more) and went for the upcharged Taro pancakes. The food was served in a timely manner. The pancakes were fluffy and eggs cooked as ordered. The Taro pancakes tasted bland, and the coconut syrup seemed simply like a slightly sweetened coconut milk thickened with slurry, nothing to write home about. Our server never checked in on us, our drinks were never refilled, not even the $3.50 iced tea my nephew ordered. I saw several employees behind the counter milling about, and other servers were touching other tables, just not ours. No one ever came to give us our check, so we got up to figure out where we were supposed to checkout. A different server simply stared at us as he walked to a cash register, never said anything, then printed out a receipt and handed it to me. By this time, I just wanted out of there and didn't bother looking at the tab. After paying and leaving, I saw that I was upcharged $6.50 for the Taro (2) pancake meal, which the server never mentioned how big of an upcharge the flavor change would be. For perspective, the base pancake meal with (2) buttermilk pancakes was $10.95, I was charged $17.45, and the choc/chip meal my nephew ordered was $13.45. While I am fine paying for any modifications I make (it's normally expected) the server never mentioned such a large upcharge. The menu mentioned Taro pancakes were a higher upcharge than the other flavors, however, it did not state a price for the meal upcharge, just the $2.50 for a flavor upgrade. All I'm saying is, be upfront with customers and train the staff to touch tables better. I would not recommend to others based on these factors, which is sad as we have so few restaurants in Guam....
Read moreService is either very inexperienced or very comfortable seeming as such. They leave a table outside that occupies a clipboard with a Fill-In-The-Blanks sheet of paper& handy dandy pen to write your name, arrival time, amount of people joining you& the the option to dine in or outside. The servers don't seem very confident nor comfortable and regardless of the amount of servers they have/don't have, I firmly believe in silent service where you don't have to constantly make verbal contact with your tables, moreover you make efforts to simply scan your tables to see if they need any refills, empty plates removed, extra napkins etc.. without having to announce it. Unfortunately, that wasn't our experience. Instead, we were frequently acknowledged with a "I'll be right with you" or "Sorry, one second..." I understand that there were only 2 servers& they obviously happened to be the ones scheduled for that busy breakfast shift. But with that being said, I blame management for their poor judgement and lack of consideration for their employees. Regardless if you can/cannot predict the amount of guests you'll be seating, you're literally rendering not only your servers from potentially earning more tips, you're also rendering the paying customers from a potentially better experience and better rating/review. Read moreThe food was good. My wife ordered the french toast with scrambled eggs, my son ordered the chocolate chip pancake kids meal and I got the breakfast burrito. All was very good. The only critic I have food wise is that the salsa with the burrito is very bland and does not compliment the burrito well at all.
Now onto the service. The busboy was the hardest working person there. Being in the food service industry myself I was very impressed with his work ethic, not the case though for the rest of the staff. To set the tone, they lost my debit card because it was sent to the wrong table. I had to get up on two occasions to get my own coffee, hot sauce, and look for my card because of the lack of involvement with the table. Then to put icing on the cake, when I went into to have a constructive conversation about their service the answer repeatedly was "ok, have a nice day." I then asked to speak with the supervisor and it was more or less the same response. Overall, good food but poor customer service. I do not recommend. If you're looking for a breakfast joint, head to Kings. Your wallet, tummy and peace of mind will be much better...
