Love the food but service was UNPLEASANT. I would have given a 5 star review if it wasn't for the bad encounter. I have a disturbing experience to tell. So, my father, sister, and I went to this restaurant not too long ago. We got some lamb hamburgers which were phenomenal. We asked them to be fully cooked, thankfully they were fully cooked which I am grateful for. But, what we didn't really like was the service. The 3 of us came in and there was a lady at the right side where they have cutlery and napkins. The moment we stepped in there, that woman looked at us and she just stared at us, she made an unpleasant look (disgusted face) but what bothered us was that she was mainly staring right at my dad w/ a disgusted face! She didn't even greet us or most importantly guide us on what we where supposed to do. Mind you, that was our 1st time being there. So, my dad awkwardly leads us to a table. Which we later found out that we were SUPPOSED be taken to a table by the employees NOT us choosing a table. But, how where we supposed to know when that lady wouldn't say anything and just made faces and stare. Again, we were new to that place, it was our very 1st time being there. Anyway, we walk to a table and sit. Another lady with blonde hair attends us and asked what we wanted. We ordered our hamburgers and fries and waited. A kind lady came to refill our drinks once and awhile which we do appreciate her kind behavior. But, we still felt uncomfortable being there just because of that weird disrespectful encounter. While we waited and even after we got our food, we noticed that the same lady that gave my dad a disgusted face would welcome other people with NO PROBLEM. She would greet them, ask how many people were going to eat, and if they were going to eat outside or inside. From there we clearly knew she had a problem with us in particular. We know she had a problem with us because she welcomed everybody else in there like a customer should be treated. I know there are bad customers who treat employees badly but we are not the kind to disturb, make a mess or yell at someone. We were there to SIMPLY EAT in peace. Which at the end we rushed eating because it was uncomfortable. Oh, once we did finish, they immediately gave us the check, we paid, and I kid you not it seemed as if they were rushing us to get out. Anyway, I got no problem with her attending people nicely but what bothered us was her unwelcoming stare especially to my father. Which it bothered the 3 of us. I don't know if this would bother other people but for us it was disturbing. We didn't have a stupid costume nor did we look funny. I know it because everybody in that room had no problem with us being there, people minded their business and so did we. It is very unfortunate because this was our 1st time going there and instead of having a pleasant time and meal, we had an uncomfortable meal & encounter just because ONE employee decided to STARE. What kind of service is that?! What she did was disrespect. So, food was excellent but HER service was not great. I do appreciate the other employees who did their job and not stare. Especially the one who refilled our drinks and would offer other customers more tea. Sorry for the long rant but I felt like I had to share this unpleasant experience making it all an uncomfortable meal which could of...
Read moreI was searching, searching online. It’s called the Hamburger Steak, on the menu we got. Online it’s like Harris’s Hamburger steak? Anyways. We ordered it medium well. It came out, not totally well. Still so tender, but no pink. ( It still cooks when it rests. We were sipping.)
The veggies were grilled. It was grilled fat slices of zucchini, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions. It was so beautiful! 🤩 💋
Crumbled blue cheese on top of the meat. No bun. (You forget the mu fu bun bcz it’s MAGIC.) The veggies had char marks. The tomato was like a tomato half. I couldn’t wait to dig in! That was the first shhh I saw on the plate. “Say it ain’t soooo!!!
(The menu just says veggies. It doesn’t say beautiful zucchini, fat mushrooms and half of a fat tomato… grilled… don’t forget the pile of onions.) I saw the mushrooms and onions. The zucchini was a gift to find on the bottom of it all.
I was cutting the beef steak with a butter knife. I ended up cutting it with a spoon! Bring me back to my ROOTS= 💯 % Filipino approved! (All that’s missing is the rice!)
They gave us all kinds of homemade dipping sauces too. Ooh… order the fried green chilis! They are battered and fried. Long strips. They came in a basket. I forgot where I was. I was thinking?
Who ordered squid?
Legs? They were sticking out if the basket! 🤷🏻♀️
That went good with EVERYTHANG! Bite of this, bite of that… BIG BITE OF EVERYTHING… ALL TOGETHER! 💣 BOMB!
It was nice not having a fat bun or piece of bread there and some juicy azz meat and perfect veggies to mix to my liking. It’s a good portion too. I shared with my man.
I wished I got a pic before I dug in. I wasn’t...
Read moreI highly recommend 5 Star for topnotch food and service--both were remarkably great! They also had great local beer at reasonable price. Two of us split a salad and burger, and we were pleasantly surprised that they nicely apportioned each one onto two separate plates for us. Our servers we incredibly friendly and helpful, and that added much to our enjoyment of dinner. The bison burger may be the best of its kind I have every had. The pickles, greens and tomato that came with it were all fresh and tasty. The bun was super fresh. The bison meat was perfectly cooked to order, and memorably tasty. The other dish we had, Chicken Chop Chop salad was also memorably good--one of our favorite salads in New Mexico. Who would have thought a burger place would make such fantastic salads? All of the greens, veggies, other ingredients and the lemon vinaigrette were ultra fresh and light. And the grilled chicken on top was standout great--juicy, perfectly grilled and seasoned. We have been to Taos several times before, but have missed out on this great place. We will be going back soon.
UPDATE: Tried 5 Star again, and the food is consistently good. There were minor variations in the food presentation from our first visit, so perhaps it was a different cook that night. Fortunately, the food was just as tasty. Wish they had all of the draft beers in stock. Most were tapped out on our second visit. Still...
