Wanted some Chinese food just to get a break from the New Mexico style vibe and found this place close by our rental. Walked in to find out they only serve Take Out orders. Mind you, it's a restaurant that can accommodate about 70 people. No servers. If you wanted to sit down and eat your takeout served meal you could but it's a self service experience. They had a counter with water and glasses, utensils, plates, etc. You had to serve yourself. Hey, I actually didn't mind the setup but it did catch me by surprise. I imagine they're shorthanded and found this to be a better way. Ok, the food... I ordered Beef Lo Mein and the wife sesame chicken, her go-to. Her meal was good but not great, my meal was tasteless and the beef was chewy. We also had spring rolls (2) and it was extremely greasy. Not the experience we were expecting. Others that were there reacted differently (favorable) to the food. Maybe you...
Read moreOrdered take-out this past Saturday night while visiting Taos for the weekend. I would not be exaggerating to say this was the worst Chinese food I've eaten in my entire life. We ordered the General Tso and the Hunan appetizer sampler, two dishes I consider my go-to because, until tonight, they have proven very hard to screw up so spectacularly. The chicken had the consistency of wet dog food and included the typical veggies you find in a standard frozen mix, leading me to suspect the food was purchased frozen and microwaved which is bad enough. If it was made in-house, it's even more frightening. The appetizer was lukewarm and again, bland and, again, seemed like microwaved Chinese from the grocery.
Guy who took my order was very nice, the only pleasant part of the experience, because the young woman who I paid was surly and rude and clearly did not want to be working.
Stay far away...
Read moreHunan is an exception in Taos, where poor service is the standard. The staff is always so friendly and efficient. Wait staff is constantly checking in on you and filling drinks. Food always comes out quick. The quality of the food is always consitent. Portions are huge and really cheap considering. I'm always surprised when I get the check at how cheap it is for how much food I ate. This is why Hunan is the only restaurant I eat at regurlarly in Taos. Everytime I go anywhere else the service is terrible, they screw up my order and it's expensive. In the end I just wish I went to...
