Everyone who had burgers, they were well done but still had a soft texture.
Tacos steak and chicken was soft.
That's about all we can say nicely.
(( Edit* Their receipt shows cash discount price and credit card price, but our friends who actually got change back were charged credit card price.
Side note, they don't carry coins for change so you're going to be forces to round up.
I wonder how many ppl over paid the past few years they were open and multiple locations they have. ))
Waitress kept our change, then when we requested it directly, she still kept a little over half of it, we didn't argue, it saved us money in the long run but our other 2 parties followed suit and refused to tip her as well.
Everything was in general, Tasteless, as to say, the beans had the most flavor ,yet those definitely needed help also.
Fries were cold, tough and over cooked, Or just old and unsalted. (Odd being of all the sides offered on the menu, fries were the only one available when we asked)
Buns were just about as tough as the fries.
Guacamole on the burger had no flavor, but the one served with the tacos had some taste and looked hand made.
We were stuck getting burgers or taco after we learned there were no mash potatoes to partner with our steaks.
Again, its just odd that a well rated restaurant will be out of food stock in Taylorville, Ron's produce has multiple times driven 40 miles the same day we call to exchange rotten produce for us, I'd assume they would drive in town to make a sale, allow for pick up, or at worse, there are multiple grocery stores in town to get you through the day. Walmart Delivers. NO EXCUSE if they were out of stock aside from being lazy to cook "special ordered" mash potatoes.
Food wise, lessen the menu to 1 page of best sellers and do them better.
The building looked great from a far, but sit and look around, exposed sewer pipe in the dining area by the bar, wall paper torn off and missing, metal trim sharp raggedy edges exposed near outlets...
Read moreI guess it could be 5 stars if you go by Midwest local standards of rating everything 5 stars for fear of retaliation. 3 stars is a passing grade (C+). 5 stars is enviable (A+).
The beer on tap is just flavored Bud Light. All of the brands are just variations of the same basic hop water. It's not worth the liquor license... Which is probably why they make more money as a bar than a restaurant. But, good on them for making use of the daytime hours.
The food is... okay. Nothing was off, stale, or otherwise hazardous. Personally, I'd rather see a 1 page menu of things I don't have the equipment to make myself, or the prep requires very specific technique, timing, or layering of ingredients. Everything tastes like it came from cans or distribution bags from a catalogue.
I don't live in that city, so I can be honest without making the owner so mad that they sick their police friends on me (or send their "coke connection" to rough me up). That's just the vibe of the midwest small towns of Illinois, especially around Springfield. It's a for sure "good ol' boys" area. That's probably why this is a dead zone for anything good, exceptional, or interesting. We're stuck here playing the games that the big bullies want to play. Perhaps this establishment is under someone's crushing thumb. I hope not. There's not much I could do to help. I don't think lying about the food quality is going to change anything for the better.
The service was good. Not particularly kind or welcoming. I guess that's what people of color felt when whites only businesses were desegrated. My experience may have been a result of the staff being hassled by the manager or owner. I wonder if good conversation with staff was that old school "customer service with a smile" that used to happen in the 1950's. I wasn't there for that, but it's a legend of sorts. There's for sure a change in how people get to know each other IRL. These days they probably get your name from your debit card, then look you up on social...
Read moreI go here to taylorville to thrift and it's basically next door to one of the thrift stores I like to hit up and thought why not. I was so surprised and pleased! I walked in; great atmosphere, it's so cute inside with a cool little lounge loft up top to just sit back! Great food! I loved my BBQ sandwhich, and the philly fries are bomb! We got the pepperoni rolls as an appetizer and they were fabulous as well! And the absolute best part was the wonderful boozy shakes!!!! That was my moms and my favorite part! The girl accidentally made the wrong one the first time gave us two chocolate shakes and brought us the right one and let us just have the mistake or she was going to throw it away, so we got a little spoiled, but the chocolate was still so good😜Stole my heart with the cookies and creme though 😍What a wonderful place! I've been back another time in the last month all because of those shakes 🫠 and taylorville is a good 40 minutes from home for me. So it's obviously worth it if I'm willing to drive that far for food and adult ice cream 😆
I noticed mon-sat they have a happy hour on some of there appetizers and such too! I can't remember the times it was, but I don't care, I'll pay full price for this place🤤😋
As for pricing, everything was reasonable of what you'd pay anywhere else. If you're a water drinker $10-20, boozy...
