I cannot believe I haven't rated this place yet. It's my favorite bakery! Okay, I'll start from the beginning. We had just moved to NJ and I still didn't know where the "good" places were. It was my husband's birthday and the person who was supposed to be handling the cake, flaked the very night before. Now I'm up the creek without a paddle. I start freaking out. How am I supposed to get my husband a good cake? I can't get him a grocery store cake. The next morning I start calling every bakery in my radius. No good options. Halfway through my list now and the anxiety is deafening. The next bakery on the list is Athens Bakery. My heart is already in shambles. I am literally just going through the motions at this point. The baker answers the phone himself (which should have been a huge clue) and I proceeded to ask if there was a readily available vanilla cake that served at least 10 people that I could buy. To my surprise, he offered to bake me a fresh cake, to my specifications, and had it ready just in time. He even used fresh whipped cream instead of icing. The cake was delicious and since then we get all of our cakes from Athens Bakery. I also have a special place in my heart for their spinach pies and baklava. Before I get to the fantasic, let me briefly warn you about one item on the menu.

Order the triangle cookie at your own risk. I couldn’t acquire a taste for it, let alone finish it.

Do not let this one pastry discourage you because you won’t have issues with the other desserts.

Each sweet dish is perfect in texture and packed with the perfect amount of filling! When you see the inside of the baklava and danish, you’ll know what it mean.

If you aren’t in the mood for a dessert, try the spanakopita. It’s crispy, flaky outer texture filled warm spinach will keep you satisfied every bite of the way. It tastes just as good even when it’s re-heated in the oven! The pie isn’t available purchase until late morning.

Seating is very limited, so be expected to order your goods to go! This local bakery is highly recommended and the owners are just as pleasant as their dessert!

I love Athens Bakery! They're one of the last remaining old school bakeries with no frills, homemade goods and some delicious authentic Greek spinach pastries and other delicacies.

I was looking for a cake for my father in February and was driving down cedar lane and found Athens. There was an older gentleman who owned the shop who is always inviting and very friendly who prepared a tremendous chocolate mousse cake. Their cheese cakes are phenomenal as well. I don't know how it's made but it's a favorite of my mother's and she cant consume dairy all too often but this gave her no issues at all.
