I'm writing this letter in regards to my recent Ultrasound guided breast cysts aspiration on March 2, 2018 at University Radiology in Teaneck NJ with Dr. Edwards. I need to mention that I'm a nurse with 25 years experience in a surgical field. I had this particular procedure done three times previously at Englewood Hospital as well as Fair Lawn radiology center very successfully. This time I decided to do it in Teaneck Univers.Rad due to absence of my regular radiologist. I have multiple cysts in my breast and after my mammogram I was introduced to Dr.Edwards who kindly agreed to perform my cyst aspiration procedure. There was one little detail that I did not confirm with her , the size of the needle she was going to use for me. For all of my previous procedures radiologists used very tiny needles such as 25G or even "butterfly" needles. I have very high pain tolerance so they never even had to use local anesthesia for me and I never ever experienced any pain during my aspirations before. As I was having FNA with Dr.Edwards I immediately felt intense sharp pain in my breast and informed her about it so she decided to give me local lidocaine injection. My fault was that I did not ask her what needle she was using , simply because I never expected from any doctor to use huge 18G needle for "FINE" needle aspiration of the breast!!! I was shocked when I asked her assistant to show me the needle after the procedure!!! Needless to say, as a result of this intervention I developed multiple hematomas in both of my breasts, horrible black and blue discoloration (I took pictures of my breasts after the procedure) and tremendous amount of pain for at least two weeks. I'm not even mentioning how much my breast tissues were traumatized which could be very dangerous for future consequences. The reason I'm writing this letter is because I want to save your future patients from this terrible experience. I do not know if Dr.Edwards is just may be too young and not experienced enough, but if you just use common sense you would never do Fine Needle Aspiration of breast cysts with 18G needle. There is no need for it!!!
I have to say that all other medical personnel was very professional, caring and helpful. Barbara was really great , helped me a lot with scheduling my procedure and doing my ultrasound. Marzena was my angel while gently and professionally performing mammography on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a Bone density test done at University Radiology. The first part of the scan for the lumbar spine went OK. After that, the machine had some trouble starting for the 2nd part for hip-femur neck. Finally, when the machine started, it stopped half way during scan. Then, it restarted but once again seemed to get stuck and went back to the start position. Technician did not answer when I asked why it was scanning more than once. On its 3rd try, the scanner finally did the full scan for the hip-femur neck. So, essentially, the machine ran 3 times to do hip-femur scan. After it was all done, I asked the tech again why 3 attempts instead of 1 pass for the hip-femur scan like I had several times in the past and also today for the lumbar spine scan. I was not given any explanation as if the tech was trying to hide something that did not go right. Later, I spoke to Dexa Scan supervisor; while talking on the phone, that person seemed to find something about the issue but quickly declined to explain and said the doctor will call me about it ā once again trying to hide and cover up an issue the tech and supervisor should have clearly explained to me. For a technical issue like this, there is really no need to have the radiologist call the patient! Trust is a very important element in medical practice; if one cannot trust doctors, technicians, nurses, or the facilities, no matter how good they are, it is worthless as patients would always doubt the accuracy and efficiency of their work. Similar issues could lead to excessive radiation for studies such as a CT scan. These providers should be honest in their dealings with their patients. On a previous occasion, despite my providing my correct sex (male), ethnicity, and the real reason for the test, they used āPostmenopauseā and incorrect ethnicity in the interpretation of the test. It seems they are not paying good attention to details and what patients fill out in their history and registration iPad. At one of their facilities, there were some other issues as well related to Covid precautions that needed rectification to protect...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had an annual mammogram done in 2018. The ordering doctor did not specify that this was a routine mammogram which is covered by insurance as a preventive care procedure . This facility performed this test as diagnostic and sent as a bill towards our deductible . I spoke with billing department to reprocess the claim because our doctor admitted to his error and wanted to re-issue a new prescription with correct name of the test ( routine mammogram ). Also my insurance agreed to reprocess the claim with new script and asked for the re-submission of the claim. The head of billing department categorically refused to be of any help and denied to reprocess the claim . They made us to pay over 400 dollars. Lack of any flexibility and very angry attitude of this facility billing department made me to write this review.
Addendum written on 3/3/2019 I would like to post additional detail with regards to a previously written review. I spoke withe the Director of Patients Accounts. We had a very pleasant and understanding conversation. Apparently my X-ray file was reviewed and was determined that a diagnostic mammogram was a better option compared to a routine screening mammogram. I accept this explanation and thank you for...
