This was our first visit to Culver's in Tempe. It is located at Southern and Rural across from the Tempe Library and west of Walmart. We ordered at the counter and took a number to a table. We ordered the 3 piece cod dinner because it is featured on their TV commercial. We decided to share the 3 piece meal and we were glad we did. It came with 3 very large pieces of fish, a generous amount of french fries and coleslaw along with a roll with butter. The fish was lightly breaded and cooked nicely as it was moist and flakey inside. The breading did not have much flavor. The coleslaw was tasty. The crinkle cut fries could have been cooked a little more. They needed salt which was not on the table. I was too lazy to go back to the counter to ask for some. The roll was very dry but the flavor was good. We did not get enough butter to make it moist. The service was friendly and attentive. The food arrived promptly and was brought to us on a plastic tray. Once are done you take your trash to the trash can. Overall the restaurant was clean but the staff needs to wipe down the tables every time a guest leaves. They quickly removed anything left on the tables like cups or plates but I did not see the tables being wiped down. There were some crumbs on our table which we wiped off. If you are a dog lover there is a lovely outdoor seating area with a fireplace. We did see some people who came in just for desert or had a desert on their tray. Granted we did not try any of the hamburgers, milkshakes or deserts as we just wanted to try the fish. This might be a case of quantity versus quality. The fish was ok but not good enough to make us go back. We thought it was a bit pricey at $23.00 for one order of fish and two drinks. The parking is a little painful because there is construction in the parking lot.

This place has been on my bucket list for months especially with locations popping up everywhere! It honestly feels insulting to even categorize with fast food starting with restaurant quality-I don't even see nice restaurants this clean! It is comfortable, serene, classy art I'd buy for my home, with almost a lodge in the wilderness feel...just warm, and I mean CLEAN! The menu has so much to choose from starting with entrees to side choices to combos to ice cream, custard, and all the toppings are endless! If you don't see it, they can probably make it. I felt a little overwhelmed at first because I just wanted to try it all! Husband had the grilled chicken sandwich combo with fries and a soft drink which he really liked! I ordered the cheeseburger deluxe single and fries! It's really hard to decide, in terms of fast food, if I liked this place better than In N Out but after sharing that strawberry custard with chocolate fudge, it was a no Brainer! The bun is a soft but firm brioche and meat Patty is not greasy just meaty and flavorful, fresh veggie toppings, crinkle fries a little on the soft side compared to N In Out's shoestring fries, and that custard (which is ice cream prepared with no eggs) is definitely a step or two above strawberry shakes I tend to succumb to at really Amy fast food place who can serve up a decent one! The service is order, self seat, with table service drop bringing your food to you when its ready. Staff is amazing, so friendly, bathrooms are very clean- I checked! Our bill was $26 and worth it! I will absolutely keep this place on my radar for another visit!

Usually a decent place to go but the last two times, the curbside pickup has been abysmal. They send you a text that says to text back when you arrive. That works usually but not recently. The last time I did that, it took several texts and about ten minutes for them to come out with the food, with them apologizing for the wait. The final time was today, and they never brought it out. I was in a. Rush to get to work, so it was more stressful but I sent three texts and received a response after the first one that would be out shortly. After three minutes I texted again. Still nothing. After another two minutes texted again and still nothing. Finally I had to leave or else I’d be late to work. I called them on the way and asked to cancel the order. They said oh I think you have to cancel it on your side. A manager (I’m assuming) got intentions to reiterate that, and told me that I should have let someone know I was there because they had the order ready. I told them I did and that I texted them. She went off the phone and came back and said they’d cancel it there. Now I have to wait to see if they actually did cancel it because the incompetence I experienced the last two times was ridiculous.

I had a very uncomfortable experience at this Culver’s location that I feel the need to share. I went in with my girlfriend to order food—nothing unusual. When we gave out name for the order, the cashier looked at us and oddly asked for an ID. We were confused because we didn’t order alcohol—just burgers. I spelled the name out clearly, but he still insisted on seeing an ID. When I asked him why he needed it, he suddenly said “nevermind” and continued with the order.

That alone felt off. But when we finished eating and were walking out, I tried to be polite and said “thank you” to smooth over the weirdness. No one behind the counter even acknowledged us. Then, just as we opened the door to leave, the same guy yelled, “Stay safe,” in a way that made the situation feel even more uncomfortable and possibly threatening.

We are both Hispanic, and in the current climate—especially in Arizona—it’s hard not to feel like this interaction had something to do with that. I really hope that wasn’t the case, but asking for ID over a name, ignoring a customer’s thank-you, and yelling something like “stay safe” as we leave doesn’t feel like good customer service. It feels targeted.

With the ICE situation going on in Arizona right now, asking for someone’s ID just to order a burger—especially when no alcohol is being served—seems completely out of line and inappropriate. Again, I could've misinterpreted the situation but it certainly doesn't...
