Sadly IMO, This place has lost its way. Walked in. Greeted by a man accros the room. “Seat yourself “ No biggie. Sat down and a waiter comes over to take drink orders. Various drinks ordered. Mine was a bottle of cold saki that was pictured on the drink menu. This was supposed to be a dry crips saki. A few min later drinks show up and the saki is a different kind. The waiter says no it’s just this is a bigger bottle. Saki ended up being a cloudy saki (unfiltered) not bad just not what I ordered. We ordered food.
Clear soup - sadly this is not clear soup it was beef broth while being advertised as chicken broth. Salty but edible
Spring rolls - very average but edible
Pot stickers - over done and slight cooled. Must have been sitting in the window for longer than optimal 4 pieces of sushi - This was the high point of the meal! It was escolar ( they call it white tuna) This tasted like it should and was actually decent.
A sushi tuna combo dish - complaints from my companions that it was low quality fish.
Vegetable tempura - oil tasted almost like a chemical of some sort. I can only imagine that it must have been old oil. Or something I’ve never had before. Either way it was not edible.
Shrimp tempura roll. Sadly this item is where they really fell down. Ordered this to have a very hard to screw up dish as much of the rest was not good. It took the server less than a min to bring this item over. As you can imagine a sushi roll of any kind cannot be made in a min. It was also cold. So this was a premade roll! Not good. Or at least not good enough for anyone who eats sushi. I sent it away immediately and the server tried to save face for the restaurant and within another min a new shrimp tempura roll showed up and it was hot! Fresh out of the microwave. not only did I not ask for this but to simply heat up a premade roll is such a bad way to do things.
All in all, I’d never eat here again. But it is very cheep. The prices are downright affordable. And it is very close to a college campus. So perhaps for people who have never had good sushi before, this place may be perfect if you have little experience and very low expectations. Or if you have very little money. I ended up tipping the waiter well, as one of the people in my party was visibly upset with the food and the service. So I felt bad. The young man who served us had no good excuses and seemed a bit concerned. Tried to explain and take off the bad items. So I felt like it wasn’t all his fault. He was given a bad product. This is all my opinion. It’s a well established opinion, but still just my personal opinion. Give it a try, I dare you. Then give an honest rebuke if you feel it’s...
Read moreI really hate giving this low of a review, especially to a place I've only tried once. Let's start with the good.
The hostess was very kind and patient, I didn't catch her name, but i appreciated the short service she gave me. She took clear care to package our order, placing cardboard at the bottom to keep things from falling over. The miso soup was salty but flavorful and had a decent amount of tofu.
As for the bad, the sushi was not fresh. Unless fresh means mushy and discolored. The rice barely held together, the seaweed had terrible texture, and none of the flavors came together properly. There was no spicy in the spicy salmon sushi. The fried rolls were 90% fry batter and rice and 10% meat. All of the rolls we got were embarrassing in flavor and sight. I don't think this is the sushi chefs fault. I think this was a lot of things. Maybe the sourcing isn't the best. Maybe the stuff they want to order is too expensive for their overhead cost. Maybe we got the "leftovers." It could have just been a bad day, too. I know our day wasn't better after eating this sushi.
I am not sure if we will be back. The prices were quite good, definitely the best in town, but take that with a grain of salt.
Update: I have been throwing up for 30 minutes now it definitely tastes worse coming out...
Read moreVery quaint restaurant. It's in the plaza with the giant planet fitness. Server was really nice. I ate chicken udon shoo soup with a California hand roll and yellowtail nigiri. They were really delicious. I arrived there shortly after 9 trying to eat as quickly as possible since I didn't want to keep staff waiting. The decor was also really nice. I loved the udon bowl and the dishes for the hand roll and nigiri. The nigiri was a little more than I'm used to paying but that's okay. It was worth it. The udon was a little different because the chicken was shredded and chunked instead of whole and small. I did like that since it was easier to grasp in the chopsticks. I also received salad with ginger since it comes with the udon. It was also really good. The ginger dressing was nice and thick and not runny like I have seen with some dressings at other locations I have eaten it at. Would...
