Smallcakes Cupcakes & Ice Cream — Restaurant in Temple

I am so impressed with Smallcakes commitment to their customers and their ability to work under pressure. I ordered my wedding cake from Smallcakes this September for my micro wedding. Thirty minutes before my ceremony was scheduled, I received a phone call from Smallcakes--there was an accident, and my cake had been dropped. Obviously this was devastating news to receive as I was climbing into my wedding dress. The woman I spoke to on the phone was very calm, and assured me they would bring me a different cake in thirty minutes. I asked them to push it out by an hour and went back to my wedding (a little tearfully!). We had a beautiful ceremony, and I had totally put the cake mishap out of my mind. Just as we were leaving the ceremony area, Smallcakes shows up. And to my surprise and delight, they had the exact cake I had requested!! The Smallcakes team deconstructed two existing cakes to create MY exact wedding cake in less than an hour! I was so impressed and spent the next hour gushing over their customer service. My spouse and I often stop by the Little Caesar's next door for pizza and we decided today to stop into Smallcakes since I see them every time and I was curious.

The store was pretty dead but an employee came and greeted us promptly, and we walked away with some ice cream and cupcakes. I haven't tried the ice cream yet since it needs a bit of freezer time after the trip home and the current warm weather, but the cupcakes? I bit into one and straight told my spouse it was practically a religious experience they're so good.

I'm also a hobbyist baker and let me tell you these are some of the best cupcakes I've ever had. Flavors on point, no bitterness or artificial taste, and the texture is silky smooth for baked goods. Cupcakes were fine. Service abominable. It was one thing to have to drive all the way back to the store to get their mistake corrected, but unacceptable the way we were treated when we asked them to make it right. The young girl behind the counter was incapable of acknowledging her mistake and also unwilling to make it right. She was rude and argumentative and I felt embarrassed for both her and her manager. The manager or whoever was in the back that had to come out and set an example of what to do and how to treat a customer for the counter girl did make it right, but I never received an apology. I have been visiting Temple fur 3 weeks now, and have been having a lovely time, but this experience was horrible. Customer service should be reevaluated at this store.
