TLC is a Texarkana tradition for many locals, and it brings many folks downtown just for its one-of-a-kind tastes. When it comes to hamburgers and french fries, TLC simply stands out as one of Texarkana's greatest burger joints. No other burger gets close to TLC'S hamburgers. And, fresh cut french fries are fried up right in front of you, but they are never served until they're kicked up a couple of notches with TLC'S own blend of spices and herbs called Red River Sand. You can even buy some Red River Sand to take home with you. What a great atmosphere, too.
Orders are placed from a single line where customers stand until they place their orders with the line cooks. By the way, the line moves much faster than lines at restaurants elsewhere, but should it ever slow down, the food is usually always worth the short wait.
Burgers are made-to-order, with all the usual fixings, along with a few others, too (including jalapenos, if you'd like). TLC's own home-cooked pinto beans are also delicious. But, oh, those french fries!!!!!
You may also call your order in to TLC when time doesn't allow you to linger.
Really, though, it's more than just anothet burger joint. In fact, it is more like a social fixture with its own long history of service and great eats. Although famous for their burgers and fries, TLC is a big part of Texarkana's history. For example, its walls are decorated with all kinds of memorabilia (like playbills from the Perot Theater, posted business cards tacked randomly about, advertisong signs and other down home decor) from Texarkana's history that you just cannot miss whenever you happen to be passing through the area.
Fountain style soft drinks are available, as is tea--in your choice of unsweetened or sweetened varieties.
A burger, fries and your drink can be gobbled up for just under $10. If this seems high, you have not been to the golden arches in a while.
Love my TLC! Maybe I will...
Read moreI have been going here for a long time and things just aren't the same as usual. Took my mom here on Mother's Day weekend for 2 burgers, 2 drinks, and 2 fries which came up to a staggering $31.60. I questioned the price since there are no prices posted anywhere at all and the lady at the register seemed offended. Never have I questioned the prices because it's never been that expensive to eat hamburgers, but apparently it is now. Had to wait for the fries even though they were prepared already but just resting in the oil to stay hot. After standing there for several minutes they scooped a small portion out so I could at least finally eat. The burgers were already made which I have never seem before here, and there was literally mustard oozing out with every bite, so that was pretty much all I could taste. We were also entertained trying to eat and hold our wobbling table at the same time while it swayed side to side. Most tables in there were doing the same thing. With prices that high and an uncomfortable atmosphere I will most definatly not be patronizing this establishment anymore. Thank you TLC for the comfort of your food throughout the years and good luck to making positive changes to reflect the reputation you have earned being the best burger place in our town. Until then I will seek another place...
Read moreI grew up in Texarkana so I've been a regular at TLC since I was old enough to drive. They have always had great burgers and hands down, the best fries in the city. That Red River Sand seasoning is fantastic, I always shake on a little extra.
Sadly, the restaurant had a fire a few years ago and closed down for what seemed like an eternity. In addition, a competing burger joint on the west side of town named Reggies opened offering a very similar menu. Their seasoning was eerily similar to the TLC Red River Sand seasoning. So while TLC was closed, Reggies became the new go-to place for a good burger in Texarkana. It had the added advantage of being more centrally located than TLC and it seemed almost as good.
I say "almost as good" but now I'd like to take that back. TLC is back open and so when I went back to T-town for a visit I had to check it out. The inside of the restaurant is almost exactly as it was pre-fire only much cleaner looking. The burgers and fries are better than they ever were.
TLC is back and if you're not eating there, you're eating a 2nd...
