Koozies: A Great Spot for Happy Hour, but Pricey on Cocktails
After passing by Koozies for a couple of years, we finally decided to give it a try on a couple of occasions. What initially drew us in was their generous happy hour, which runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. While Koozies excels at certain items, we found a few points that might make us think twice about returning for anything beyond a casual happy hour.
The Highlights: Happy Hour & Wings
We were consistently impressed with the happy hour specials. The drink prices are great—a tall Blue Moon for only $7 and a glass of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay for $6 is solid value. The standout item on the menu, however, has to be the wings. Across both of our visits, the wings were fantastic. We tried the Kickin' Bourbon, Gochujang, and Sweet Chili flavors, and all were excellent. If you're coming for a quick beer and a bite, you can't go wrong with their wings.
Food & Service: Room for Improvement
The rest of the food was a mixed bag. The double smash burger we ordered was cut in half and served on two separate plates, which we initially thought was a nice gesture. We were surprised to find a $1 split plate fee on the bill, a charge we would have gladly foregone had we known about it. While I enjoyed the burger, my wife noticed a specific flavor she couldn't pinpoint—a taste that she believes came from the grill or the butter used on the bun. This same flavor was also present on the club sandwich we ordered on our second visit, so it appears to be a consistent issue. Our cheese sticks were okay but could have been warmer inside.
The bartender was friendly and a good conversationalist but seemed a bit preoccupied with prepping for the day, which led to a few moments where service was less attentive than we would have liked.
The Price of a Cocktail
The biggest disappointment was the price of their cocktails. During our second visit, we decided to test their Old Fashioned. I was pleased to see they had a decent selection of bourbon and used large cubed ice, which showed promise. However, the bill was a shock. A single Bulleit Old Fashioned cost $17.25. For a mid-tier bourbon, this price feels excessive, especially compared to other local establishments where a similar drink costs $13 or less. This high price point for cocktails feels out of place for what is otherwise a relaxed bar and grill.
Final Verdict
Koozies is a good to great spot for enjoying happy hour specials and delicious wings. If you're looking for a casual drink and some appetizers, it's worth a visit. However, if you are planning to order cocktails, be prepared for prices that feel more aligned with a high-end restaurant than...
Read moreWent to Koozies tonight for the do or die game for the "Houston " Texans. Yes, this "sports" bar is in Cypress, Texas about 25 miles northwest of Houston. Every sports bar in Houston and surrounding areas had this important football game on because the Texans HAD to win to get into the playoffs. We decided to get there around 5:30 and eat first, then stay for the 7:15 pm game. The bar was FULL of Texans fans enjoying the game. We were told that at 9:00 pm, (halftime) the sound would be turned off and karaoke would start, as they did karaoke every Saturday night. We didn't believe the manager when she told us that she paid the DJ to start at 9:00 pm and that the game would be turned off at that time.. Our immediate thoughts were,, this is a "sports bar", is it not? Well, we learned quick, No, its not!!!!!! There are TVs with sports playing but karaoke is a priority! It wins out! So, we had to leave and go elsewhere to finish watching this important game. When a sports bar chooses to shut down a do or die game of their OWN city, for KARAOKE, thats not a "sports bar". Ive been to other sports bars that has karaoke, thats not an issue, but when its priority over a playoff game????? You feel like your being pranked!!!!!!! This really is Koozies Karaoke bar with tvs. And thats ok! I just dont like being misled. DONT HAVE SPORTS BAR IN YOUR BUSINESS NAME I know where NOT to go now when I want to watch sports! There's plenty of other true sports bars within a few miles of this karaoke bar. My advice: go somewhere else first so you don't have to leave in the middle of a playoff game. But in all fairness to this "sports bar", their chalkboard outside had karaoke written on it, but I didn't see it. Lol! But again, the Texans do or die game shut down at halftime for karaoke!!!!!!!!!!!!! LET THAT...
Read moreI was looking for a quiet place that offered good vibes, nice people and above all, classy. Something out of the ordinary neighborhood bar. After a lot of wandering and some disappointments, I came across Koozies Sport Bar. This bar is one of a kind to be honest, and yes it might look like other bars around, but what makes it different is the vibes. This bar has a very welcoming atmosphere, it's always clean and stinky-free. The ladies behind the bar are just exceptional, one of them is so gorgeous and nice and smiley and with such an angelical voice; the other one is also attentive and caring and also fiery if she has to cut someone out when they misbehaving lol They are always on fire to take care of your time in. They offer a fast service and it takes just a few visits for them to know what your drink is; not only that, the absolutely caring and respectful attention of the owners, both of them, it's just something I haven't seen it anywhere else in years. Plus, they are so humble and friendly. Prices are fair, food is tasteful and more than sufficient. They always have some kind of promotions in food AND beers AND coctels. They got a patio so you can smoke your cigarretes if you feel to do so. I've been there on Karaoke night which they have on Saturdays and it's funny and everyone seems to enjoy it to the fullest! It's a very joyful place to be, they make you feel like you're just in a party with your family lol, only one thing: they should be open till 2am everyday 😂😂😂 They will see me...
