Pastel Gourmet located on Cypresswood at the intersection of Stuebner Airline, next to the Shell gas station.
Pastel Gourmet has been in operation since 2015. But I'm going to tell you that I have been to the Shell gas station and never new that Pastel Gourmet was open. My loss.
This is predominantly carryout, with 5-6 small tables.
The food offerings are based on Venezuelan basis and flair.
Beginning with delicious Arepas with filling choices of ham, cheese, beef, black beans, fried plantains, pulled pork or scrambled eggs.
Cornmeal or wheat flour empanadas with the same filling choices.
Pastries that are lunch base or with dessert fillings.
A nice array of hot or cold coffees are available.
Today I ordered the Pabellon Arepas - deep fried cornmeal cake filled with tender shredded beef, sweet fried plantains, black beans and deliciously melted white cheese.
This is not a snack, this is a full fledged sandwich- but you will need a fork and knife because these are overfilled.
I had the Cafe Marron- a 70% coffee from the "little coffee plant" plus 30% milk based froth. This is a strong, dark coffee.
I loved the Cafe Marron.
Truly like this little cafe. The staff is extra friendly. Go discover this...
Read moreA small gem tucked away near Meyer Park in Spring, Texas. I had the corn pancake and it was one of the more delicious new things I’ve tried recently . A corn based pancake with hand-made cheese and beef folded inside, topped with sour cream and shredded cheese. I generally don’t like white sauces or creams, but my first bite threw that baseless bias out the window.
The owner is very engaging and you can tell he puts his heart and soul into his business. I feel like I visited a caring neighbor’s home for breakfast.
I got tequeños on the house as just a thank you, and they too were amazing. Think of a deep fried croissant stuffed with cheese, but way better!
Love the small cozy warm space, very well laid out and absolutely one of the cleanest restaurants I’ve been to in Texas.
Try this place for breakfast if you can. Highly...
Read moreI popped in because the salon next door wasn’t quite open yet. I was greeted very warmly by the staff, who asked if I had visited before. I said that despite getting my hair cut next door for years I regretted that this was my first time in this cafe. He informed me about their menu options and a little about their history while I waited for the customer in front of me to complete his order. I ordered a cappuccino and a couple bacon and cheese empanadas.
After ordering, I sat down, and the gentleman brought out some cheese sticks to enjoy while I waited for the empanadas, which are made to order. When the empanadas were ready, the gentleman recommended a green cream sauce to go with them—fantastic.
We need more local shops like this, and fewer Starbucks.
10/10 I wish I had...
