So, let me first say, this is not a review about their wines or the selections or the tastings (which are all great) - it's about their Father's Day dinner. I got to choose and after seeing the email sent out about their Father's Day dinner, I knew where we were going. So I got to go with my daughter, my son, my stepson and my daughter's fiancé. My wife unfortunately had a migraine headache and couldn't make it. We started with some small plates, or appetizers, that consisted of the beef empanadas, stuffed mushrooms, peppadew peppers (my favorite), and Tuscan herbed crostini's (new to the menu). These did not last long, but shortly after which, our main course arrived. The Meat Board - all meat served on a large cutting board. There was a 12oz ribeye and 6oz filet - cooked medium rare, and then there were the lamb lollipops and last, which is my wife's favorite, the seared Ahi tuna. We also had a bowl of the meatballs and sauce. Everything was devoured and we had to order additional small plates for the big appetites at the table. Had it not been for the characters I brought in, there would have been more than enough food for normal appetites. And my son (14) had one of the hamburgers with truffle fries - they are very good. Everything was amazing and just not enough time to write about each one. We also had a bottle, or maybe two of Whole Cluster Pinot Noir. Very good. Chef Julieta did an amazing job preparing our food and making it a most enjoyable evening. Owner Ron Holsomback has a great place and has done a wonderful job at putting together great wines with...
Read moreMe and my wife went our first time to the Cellar Door around fall of 2016 and enjoyed our experience. The food and service were good, though very expensive compared to your typical wine bar.
We decided we would go again for Valentine's 2017, so i made a reservation on Open table on Feb 1st. I received an email notification on Feb 11th verifying that my reservation was confirmed. In order to make sure everything was in order, I called to the Cellar Door on Feb 13th to check that my reservation was all set up. I was told that my reservation was never made and they could not give me a new reservation at the time I wanted, and that all they could offer was a much earlier reservation. They also told me that even if we did come in, we could not eat off of their normal menu and would be forced to pay $60 per person for a 5 course meal that neither of us wanted and did not even come with any wine. None of this was ever communicated to me or via the opentable website, and no one from cellar door ever bothered to contact me ahead of time to let me know. I asked if we could come in and eat off of the normal menu and was told no. Pretty poor management and treatment of customers if you ask me.
Final opinion, this place serves very good food for very high prices and has some potential, but stay away during special occasion holidays like Valentine's Day. It is just not worth it and you might get screwed like we did. We would have gladly come in and spent $100+ on food and wine we wanted. I guess that isn't...
Read moreLet me start by saying that we are not the type of people that normally complains, but our experience at The Cellar Door was so bad I feel compelled to share.. so "Buyers Beware". My wife and I had dinner with friends at this place last Friday. She had been planning the night with this other couple for a week and was super excited to be out. From the moment we arrived our waitress Ariana made clear she was not happy to be there. Throughout the entire night, she kept giving us a bad attitude, but we pressed forward. The food was actually good. We start the night by ordering a $36 bottle of Pino. After the first bottle was over we clearly asked Ariana to "recommend" a red-blend on the same price range; she never confirmed the price and offered us a bottle of Prisoner red blend. The wine was so good we order a second bottle. To our surprise when the bill came back they charged us $85 per bottle which was not even close to what we requested. The manager was called to our table and after some explanations and lame excuses proceed to discount the two bottles to $50 each which still a huge markup. The retail of that bottle is $30 anywhere. On top of everything else, the manager said they erroneously charged my card one extra time and he had already revert the charge. This morning I checked my account and hold and behold they charged me 3 times. As of today, the charges are still pending. Rest assured we will...
