Really disappointed with this place and their staff! I went last year for a birthday and we had a good time, good food, no issues. Today we arrive at around 4 and ask for 6 for hibachi. The idiot who came to ‘greet’ us asked us if we wanted to be sat or wanted hibachi — we already answered by saying we need 6 for hibachi but ok fair enough maybe he didnt catch it we say again hibachi. He said ok let me get your hibachi area ready and leaves. So were standing there waiting…waiting…waiting…finally the oNLY other table that was sat left. The guy who treated us initially comes up to the bar — where we are standing, waiting, aimlessly? And proceeds to check out the other family leaving. I found it incredibly rude that he did not ask us if we wanted to sit, wanted a drink, nOTHING. Worse, we look over and absolutely nothing is being done to ‘set up’ the hibachi, in fact it’s a group of employees all just hanging out in the corner doing ? I dont know? And the hibachi chef is eating lunch so i guess what? We just need to wait? It was just such a lack of communication. It was clear that the ‘waiter’ wanted us to be sat so he could get the tip but we wanted the hibachi. After all that and 20 minutes waiting, we left and never even got past the bar. Absurd. To top if off, there was trash by the front door and NOBODY inside so why the hell is this taking so long/ again if something is needed or we need to wait EXPLAIN THAT DONT JUST IGNORE US DUDE. Thumbs down! And your waiter on Sunday at about 4pm SUCKS and looked stoned so way to go...

We recently moved to this side of town and we were looking for a local hibachi restaurant. Sadly Tokyo Samurai will not be making the cut.

We had sushi + hibachi w/ water @ $85+ total spend.

The sushi was decently good, but nothing amazing... and that was the best part. We did like our chef, he was very friendly and conversational. He also modified his routine because we had a baby that was sleeping. But that's were anything good stopped.

First thing I noticed was the restaurant didn't feel clean. Mostly the hibachi chairs have baked on grease all over them and feel gross to the touch. The hibachi dinner table also didn't feel fully clean (by touching my hand to it). The soup tasted like bouillon broth (my wife had miso which was good). The house salad was absolutely pitiful/awful (probably the worst I've ever had)... the ginger dressing had about zero flavor. The hibachi was also lacking in flavor especially the rice. We usually love just the fried rice and we were very surprised at the lack of flavor of nearly the entire meal. The scallops & filet were cooked great and to our preference, but didn't make up for the lack of flavor on the rest. The ginger sauce (with dinner) also seemed very watered down and lacked the flavor we are used to at other hibachi restaurants.

Our service started out really good, but almost completely dropped after the chef showed up. He had to call over a different server to...

My husband, daughter, and I went for hibachi. We were seated immediately at a table with another family. After about 5-10 minutes, a waiter came and got out drink orders. Then, when he came back with our drinks, he took our order. Our soup and salads came out, and after another 10 minutes, our cook came to our table. He was fantastic and very funny. Great hibachi experience even though the lobster was over-cooked. The problem is the wait staff. We were never asked if we wanted refills on our drinks. The manager came by and refilled the other family's drinks, but never checked with my family to see if we wanted a refill. We could never get our waiters' attention. He was busy waiting on the free-standing tables. When we were done eating, we waited and waited until finally the woman next to me got up and got to go boxes for us all. Only then did our waiter show up with our checks. I gave an 18% tip ONLY because the hibachi cook was so great. I wish I had cash on me because I would have tipped him cash and then left a not so great tip for the crappy service we received. We definitely won't be back. The food and sushi were just okay, I've had better for the price. They need to have designated wait staff for the hibachi area and separate waiters for the free-standing tables. It will run so much more...

We're here at our favorite hibachi restaurant, Tokyo Samurai! I always love the chicken and fried rice, but I also tried the onion soup and a salmon sushi roll. Overall, this place gets a 12/10. #hibachi #friedrice #foodcritic #foodreview

This place has gone down hill so badly! They are now using old fish. Just opened a box of sushi rolls we bought take out, and as soon as I took off the lid, the stench of rotten fish was overpowering. When I called to tell them the fish was bad, the owner Brian said “No refund, no remake, I don’t need your business”. Look at the color of the fish in the photo! If you value your health, stay away from this place! They want your money, but don’t care if you are happy or not. Do yourself and your family a favor, go to Fosters in Roanoke and get better, safer food!
