When a person goes to a chosen fast food restaurant you tend to get excited and look forward to ordering your favorite hamburger the way you like it.
Just shy of 12:00 I drove up to the drive-thru. I'm the third car in and I'm beating the lunch rush.
I ordered two number one meals and the person who's taking my order asked for my name and instructed me to go to the first window to pay.
At this point because I feel like I'm halfway to my goal to picking up lunch. As soon as I get up to the first window the cashier asks if my name is Rick. I replied "no, my name is Roy".
She asked me what I ordered and I told her it was two number ones. One would have thought that she would have repeated what that order was on the name just in case the name was wrong. Before I could say anything else she closes the window. I was waiting for her to reopen the window and instruct me to go ahead and go forward. She did not. Instead I sat for about 2 minutes. I had to yell to get her attention so I can figure out what the issue was.
She opened up the window and I asked what was going on and she replied "we are looking for your order". Then close the window again.
My initial thought at that moment, how can somebody lose an order?
I looked at my watch I sat there for another 2 minutes. Looking in my rearview mirror drive-thru traffic was starting to pile up. I took matters into my own hands and left the drive-thru and parked in front of the restaurant.
I then went inside to talk to a manager how can an order get lost. I have to assume that there are point of sale system can be operated by the most simplest minded person.
With my concern about losing orders I had stated that brother had experienced the same issue at another Whataburger location off of Jackson Street in McAllen which happens to be less than a mile away.
I had asked the manager if this is a common practice for the drive-thru orders to be lost.
She said that my order is ready. Another employee came to the counter and gave me my order I was about ready to give them my payment to the employee and had stated that it's taken care of.
In most cases I would still pay for it, but because of the fact that the Jackson Street location did the same thing I went ahead and took the meal for free.
The downfall of all this? One would think that a free meal would taste good. It did not. It was overall cold and the excitement of having a Whataburger did not taste good because of having a repeat experience from two different locations.
Did I finish eating the meal? No, because I stated the excitement of the meal was gone.
Fast food workers believe that they should have a living wage. Unless one is going to become a career manager fast food restaurants should only be a stopover to the next level of a person's...
Read moreI went to get the new jalapeno double meat sandwich and it was great, I couldn't eat it fast enough.. I was a little disappointed with the number of fries I was given though.. I think it was not that long ago this whataburger was serving basically raw fries which were horrible.. this might be reverting back to cutting corners as they also forgot to grill the jalapenos in my burger as I had asked..I can understand that it was a really busy drive thru and they might have been understaffed, but it's not difficult to put more fries... in any case the drive thru was packed but it wasn't as long of a wait as I had expected. the drive thru was a speedy experience..
I wanted to update my review on here as I recently came to this Whataburger again because I live near by and I saw the Candy Cane chocolate shake had released. I believe they fixed the issue they had with their fries not being cooked filly which is good. The other week I came with my brother to get some food and this manager was asking everyone there if they liked the mix for the shake as they were preparing to release it for this season. I like that they were taking the customers opinion in account when deciding what amount of the mix to put into their shakes. It was very strong and I let him know at the time so I think this affected their decision as I tasted it recently and it was cold creamy a bit chocolate in there and an underlying amount of candy cane. I wish it was actually a bit more potent with the candy cane flavor as I kept sipping to chase the flavor that there was a hint of.
In any case this has become a better Whataburger, if I were to make any suggestion it would be to have someone outside charging the drive thru more often. Usually both lanes just lead into the one. If that’s handled well more often maybe that would...
