This is our first, and last, time trying this restaurant. I tried to forget my experience, as I don't like to write bad reviews. However, almost a week later and I am still in shock so I'd like to share my thoughts in case this is a recurring situation.
FOOD: I ordered a butter chicken and my husband a Paneer butter masala. Honestly the worst "butter chicken" I've had. I put that in quotes because I don't think that's what I was given. It was not creamy at all, very watery and the flavor was off. My husband liked his.
SERVICE: This is a counter order, then sit, type place. So, fast food. The lady taking the order was courteous but aside from this there wasn't any "service" involved. We were given our order in to-go containers like a fast food chain.
ATMOSPHERE: This is where I really had a problem. When we walked in, at 5pm on a Saturday, there were no customers in the restaurant. After placing our order - we went to find a table to eat at the restaurant, and literally every.single.table was dirty. Not just crumbs but literal sauces that had dried up. The bench seats were in the same state. I took a couple of napkins to wipe a table down while we waited.
As we waited, the lady who rang the register noticed I had wiped the table down so she came out and cleaned up the other tables. Nice job. Except - and this is the grossest part of all - she had gloves on while cleaning, then went back to the kitchen and picked up our tray and served our food. She didn't remove the dirty gloves.
THEN when she gave us the tray - it was CAKED with old food. It was so gross and I tried to ignore it. But even my husband said "don't look at the tray". He stood up and went to get a cup of water from a "Culligan" machine that was also CAKED with stains on the front. I know this sounds dramatic but I am stating facts.
I tried my best to stay and eat. But a fly was hovering around and a man who came from the kitchen decided it was good time to take a phone call ON SPEAKER and yelling into it with no regard for anyone else's presence. It was rude and clearly he may have owned the place? He had a backpack on the table before he came out from the kitchen.
All in all, really disturbed that this is a place of business allowed to remain open. I could not find any health inspection reports online but truly hope they get one done for the safety of the public that patronizes this...
Read moreThis was my second visit to Desi Chowrasta after more than a year, and I was in the area, still recalling the delicious goat biryani I had last time. So, I decided to stop by for lunch again. Initially, I was planning to order the Goat Dum Biryani, but the young lady at the cash register suggested a South Indian chicken dish with rice, similar to biryani but with a different flavor. Though I'm not the biggest fan of chicken, I went with her recommendation—and I’m glad I did!
To top it off, they had a BOGO offer on that dish. Two portions were more than enough for four people. We had one with dry chicken, which was quite good, and the other with fried chicken and gravy—this one was absolutely mind-blowing.
We also ordered a masala chai, and as a Punjabi who loves chai, I’m very particular about it. Unfortunately, their chai was overly sweet and didn’t quite meet my expectations, so I wouldn’t recommend it.
When I shared my feedback about the food at the cash counter, one of the staff members graciously offered me a complimentary dessert, Sahi Tukda, which was a very nice gesture. The staff was friendly and attentive, and I could see why the place is bustling during lunch hours, with many locals working nearby coming in regularly.
They also offer a variety of Indian bakery items, and their menu features great options like biryanis, lunch thalis, and dosas. Plus, they have different deals on different days, so it’s worth checking those out.
Overall, Desi Chowrasta is a great spot for authentic South Indian food in the DFW area, and it’s...
Read moreI ordered Goat Dum Biryani on Doordash. The doordash did not show “sold out” while I am ordering. These people accepted the order without hesitation. I drove 20 mins to hear that they did not have Goat Dum but they can give goat fry biryani if I could wait another 20 mins or so. In their defense, they could not call me (not sure, I ordered through DoorDash pickup).
At this point, my wait time is almost closer to 1 hour including prep time, commute, another wait. Whats the point in ordering ahead? I have no problem in waiting. I asked the guy, you could’ve rejected the order so that I could update my order or choose another location? Reply: I can give you the rice (leftover of what they soldout) if you would like? Me: Would you accept if I paid less for it since it is all rice?
How could you assume that I am ok to have just rice without the pieces? I may be having a party with couple of guests coming in to try for the first time. I asked the guy how would you feel if you were me? He apologized realizing the mistake. Which is acceptable. This rating is not to destroy the business. This is a constructive feedback. Take it or leave it!
I really do not care for reviews. But this is unacceptable! If you had it on the menu, provide it to the customers if not, update that you...
