I was a little surprised to learn that they do not actually sell tacos. I suppose that's why they're mad? The sauces are really good, but I generally prefer my food hot, or at least warm through and through. A pile of cold bean paste with meat, interspersed with warm sectiins here and there is fine and all, but on my lunch break, working outside in the cooler weather, it's just not what I'm looking for.
I suppose I should clarify what I meant: I was surprised to learn that they do not sell hard shell tacos, only soft shell tacos. Some would call soft shell tacos by another name, but many do call them tacos. So they do in fact sell tacos, just not of the hard shelled variety. And they do not have bean paste, I was just referring to the beans that were properly cooked and prepared into a paste-like texture as you would see in refried beans, only with more whole beans mixed throughout. It was not served below room temperature, so cold was not an honest description. But the majority of it was only barely detectably above room temperature. Some spots were warm.
Overall, they make good food there. I probably was just unlucky and my dish got forgotten about out back before it was brought out. Mistakes happen. Give them a shot, I have no complaints about...
Read moreWe had an absolutely abysmal experience at the Mad Taco. As a tri state area native, I recognize good quality food and drink, and what that can sometimes cost. At the Mad Taco you’ll get a bad margarita in a pint glass, for $15-$18 dollars, and be seated in either a fluorescent-lit ‘dining room’ or a bar top covered in grime and grease. The wait staff were unfriendly and un-attentive. After we ordered our food (at a take-out window, no less) and then sat at the bar, we were served about 10 minutes later and our food was handed to us wrapped in tin foil, without any plates or silverware. And we DIDNT order it to-go. We didn’t get any plates or silverware, had to get our own plus condiments at a separate area in the bar. And the burritos were so bland, mine was cold, and about $18 each. For the five of us, 3 of which got burritos, 1 who got tacos and another who got a sandwich, plus 4 margaritas, the total was about $200. It was laughable considering we all come from the NY are and have paid those prices often, but for ACTUAL food and drink service in legitimate restaurants. Best of all- they have an automatic 15% gratuity built into the final bill, which is absolutely obscene considering how poor the experience was. Avoid this place as...
Read moreWe stopped by Mad Taco on a Sunday night during a long weekend, and the place was buzzing with energy. Despite how busy it was, the friendly employee behind the bar immediately set the tone with excellent service. Before we even ordered drinks, he kindly explained the wait time upfront, giving us the option to reconsider. His transparency and warm smile were much appreciated, and we assured him we were fine with the wait.
He served us promptly, and we enjoyed two exceptional local beers while soaking in the electric vibe. Due to the crowds, we decided to switch our order to takeout, and the staff handled it effortlessly and without hesitation. A short time later, we were on our way back to our condo with our food in hand.
The wings were cooked to perfection—crispy and seasoned just right. The tacos were absolutely loaded with fresh ingredients, and the proteins were cooked to perfection. Every bite was delicious!
I can’t say enough great things about this place. From the friendly, efficient service to the fantastic food and beer, Mad Taco is a must-visit if you’re in the Mad River Valley. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a vibrant atmosphere, great drinks, and even...
