This was by far the worst experience we've ever had. We walked in for our reservation to be greeted with attitude and disgust. We were treated like we did not belong and felt that because we were 40 and under, we shouldn't have stepped foot in this facility. I asked the hostess if we could sit outside to which she said that we couldn't because they were too busy after she looked at a server coming in from outside who said to her she didn't want any more tables. We were then seated and waited roughly 7 minutes to be greeted by our server. Once greeted, we gave our drink order, however we are sober so ordered tea and soda, she expressed her disappointment with our decision. It took close to 10 minutes to get our drinks. We put our food order in, I ordered the braised spare ribs with the pimento cheese grits, he ordered the barbecue jerk chicken with green beans and macaroni casserole. We waited an hour for our food, while we waited, we watched the hostess seat people in the hotel lobby stating they had no tables open but there were 8 open the entire time we were there. There was a party of 4 wanting to be seated and were ignored so the 2 ladies in the party went to the bar as there were only 2 seats open there and their dates stood behind them, they stood majority of their stay. One of the men walked to the hostess, pointed out open tables and was sent away. We finally got our food, I literally got 1 rib, and 1 scoop of grits underneath for $36 and he got ¼ chicken, a large portion of macaroni and green beans for $32. My rib was scorching hot but mostly a fat glob and the grits were extremely greasy and lukewarm, I was still starving after eating even though it was not great, I had to eat and that was the only thing I could have given my severe allergies. He said his was good but not worth the $32. There were much older couples who came in while we were eating that were sat quickly, tended to by a sweet server who was helpful and had a smile. We unfortunately did not get that same treatment. Our server didn't come back until after we finished our meal. We left paying $82 and change for me to leave hungry and very...
Read moreLast night 4 of us from the Caribbean dined at Calypso. We were all looking forward to experience “Caribbean fusion food” but was disappointed to say the least. Upon entering, we noticed the noise inside was loud and opted for a table in the far corner. Throughout the dinner it was very difficult to have a conversation with each other. The table was too small to accommodate the appetizer, the meal and the drinks for 4 individuals. It felt cluttered. The service was also lacking. The waiter reached across my space to give my guest his red wine which he later spilt … cracking the glass and having red wine splash all over the table. We hurriedly moved to another table and realized that the water glasses were mixed up, in addition we all noticed that the servers held the glasses by the rim and not the base. The female who help move us insisted the glasses were placed correctly. We had to insist that we needed new glasses of water. We had to remind them to replace the glass of red wine that was spilt. The meal was disappointing. The appetizer was saved by the sauce, the soup was cold and too thick. The ROTI had no resemblance to a roti. Overall, there was no flavor of the Caribbean. The most disappointing part of the whole experience is that no apology from the waiter was ever offered. Someone could have been injured from the broken glass. Upon leaving the restaurant we noticed red wine stains on our clothes. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Calypso Restaurant and I will not be recommending this establishment to any of my friends. A very...
Read moreWe had a party of 3 and showed up on time for our 5:15 reservation. We were seated on the outside terrace near the gate to the hotel's pool, so the ambiance was terrible (kids running around, noisy, etc.). We then waited until 5:45 (30-minutes) before a server arrived and since we had waited so long, we asked her to send the manager over so that we could advise her of our displeasure, which she did. We also ordered our cocktails and dinner, which included a cup of soup. Shortly after that the soup arrived, BEFORE THE COCKTAILS, so we sent it back and asked for it to be served after we got our drinks and had a few minutes to enjoy them. We then we got our cocktails and the soup was delivered about 10 minutes later (not much time to enjoy our drinks). After that the balance of the food took much longer than it should have to arrive. The manager tried to make amends and asked if we wanted a complementary desert, but we declined it and requested that they comp the 3 cocktails that we had consumed before dinner, but she said that all they would offer us was desert. After finishing our dinner and paying the bill the total time that we were sitting at the table...
